Grant Application Categories
PetSmart Charities is pleased to have funded more than $52 million to its animal welfare partners since 1994. Here you will find grant applications to get you started on the process of requesting funding from PetSmart Charities. Before you start filling in an application, be sure to visit our Grants page for important information including eligibility requirements and the deadline for your state.

Fast Track Grants
Fast Track Grants have a shorter route to funding than our other grants because there is no preliminary proposal to submit. The applications are templates, which guide you step-by-step in writing your proposal. Qualifiers are noted on each application. However, all Fast Track grants are restricted to agencies with revenues of $500,000 or less.

Preliminary Proposal / Full Proposal
The preliminary Proposal process applies to those organizations whose annual income for the last fiscal year was over $500,000 or for those applying for funding for a program that does not fit one of our Fast Track grant categories.

Any 501(c)(3) organization (or registered charity in Canada), educational institution or governmental/tribal entity with a budget for animal care/control can apply, as long as the organization has a year's worth of financial records.  A fiscal sponsor who meets these requirements may be used in lieu of one year's worth of financial records or pending 501(c)(3) status.

Fast Track Spay/ Neuter Grants
PetSmart Charities is committed to helping end pet overpopulation by funding animal welfare organizations that are providing spay/neuter services in their community. There are three primary types of funding categories:

  • Spay/neuter of pets prior to adoption
  • Spay/neuter of the pets of low-income families
  • Spay/neuter of free-roaming cats

These programs will help communities end pet overpopulation and support the vision of a lifelong, loving home for every companion animal.

Fast Track Horse Grants
Horse organizations whose goals include finding adoptive homes for the horses in their care are eligible to apply for grant funding. While the Preliminary Application format is also available when appropriate, we offer template application for four specific choices of funding categories for a 12-month period:

  • Farrier expenses
  • Dental expenses
  • Vaccination and standard testing expenses
  • Gelding expenses

These are expenses often associated with preparing horses for adoption and are a good fit with our vision of a lifelong, loving home for every companion animal.

Emergency relief may be appropriate in some circumstances for horse organizations when an emergency involves three or more horses or if a single horse is the victim of human violence.
