Katie Balazs has been a volunteer for 12 years with Cats In Need Of Human Care, a non-profit organization operating out of the Yorba Linda Petsmart. She is in charge of the healthcare of as many as 10 cats on a daily basis.
She cleans cages, scoops litter boxes, feeds and medicates pets and washes towels every day. She also fosters two or more cats in her home--typically ones with physical or social problems. She is only too eager to help a diabetic cat like “Maggie,” a very shy cat like "Patches" or a cat with chronic bowel syndrome like “Buddy.” Thanks to Katie these difficult-to-place animals as well as many others have been saved from being put down and have found good homes.
She also hand-sews beds from donated towels and blankets for the cats and dogs that are in our care.
It’s amazing to find an individual such as Katie who selflessly donates hours and hours to homeless pets.
Katie’s dedication and commitment has led to the placement of over 3,250 pets so far. She can be seen on her hands and knees scrubbing and cleaning cages every day--even on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, when the store is closed to the public, Katie meets the needs of each homeless pet and gives them the dignity they deserve by taking time out of her holidays to make sure they’re okay.
She never complains or tires of her duties and is an exceptional Petsmart volunteer.
