Annual pet-adoption event re-scheduled for 67 PetSmart stores in Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and Texas on October 10, 11 and 12
(PHOENIX) – PetSmart Charities® today announced that its popular Fall National Adoption Event has been rescheduled for portions of the Southeastern United States affected by hurricanes earlier this month. Sixty-seven PetSmart® stores in Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and Texas will partner with local animal-welfare organizations and rescue groups for the adoption extravaganza on October 10th, 11th and 12th (for a complete list of participating cities and store locations, please see pages 2 and 3). PetSmart Charities’® annual Fall National Adoption Event took place the weekend of September 12th-14th, 2008, in the U.S. and Canada. The goal was to find homes for nearly 15,000 pets from participating animal-welfare organizations, shelters and rescue groups. However, the event had to be cancelled throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and Texas as violent hurricanes forced the closure of PetSmart® stores and other businesses in the region, and prompted large-scale community evacuations. ‘’We found homes for 13,888 pets during the national event thanks to great turnout and enthusiastic participation in other parts of the U.S. and in Canada,’’ said Susana Della Maddalena, Executive Director of PetSmart Charities®. ‘’However, pet lovers and animal-welfare organizations in the southeastern United States did not have a chance to take part, so we have re-scheduled the event for them with the goal of placing even more homeless pets with loving, new families.’’ Prospective pet parents are encouraged to visit any of the participating PetSmart® stores between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 12th. Hundreds of homeless pets from local animal welfare organizations, rescue groups and shelters will be available for adoption. Families who adopt a pet during this event will receive a “Welcome to Pet Parenthood” guide, chocked full of useful information for adopters, as well as more than $120 in valuable PetSmart® coupons.
