ROSY (Purebred tri-colored Miniature Bull Terrier) - AVAILABLE!!!!! Only $350 adoption!!! My adoption profiles tend to be long & very detailed. Please read the ENTIRE Adoption Profile (all the way to the FAQ) so you understand everything about this dog & if you are a good match for her. If you still have questions after reading the entire profile, PLEASE read the FAQ for your answer instead of e-mailing me the question. Most of the questions are answered there, & I'm not always able to answer all the e-mails. The FAQ is at the bottom of every Adoption Profile. Some of the sites that I post on do have space limits & cut it off. In those cases, you can find the full Adoption Profile on our Facebook page. If you don't have Facebook, & you e-mail Safe_Haven_Animal_Rescue@live.com, you will get an auto reply with the FAQ in it. Rosy ended up at the shelter because someone reported her owner beating her. She was cowering, lethargic, and shut down when the authorities got there & they did not realize the extent of her injuries at first. She had a lot of bruising and swelling, & it turned out that he had beat her so badly the he broke the ball of her right hip off her femur. She has had hip surgery & is recuperating nicely & walking well now. The fur on her hip is still growing back in from when they shaved her for surgery. Rosy needs someone who will continue to follow her physical therapy instructions (below) so she can recuperate well. While at the shelter, she was fearful & avoidant and that landed her on their euthanasia list. That is when Safe Haven stepped in. We networked her through our E-list Adoption Program & found (what we thought) was a great home for her. This couple had experience with Bull Terriers, and SEEMED to listen and understand how to work with Rosy to help her get comfortable at their home. But for some unknown reason, the woman decided that after only having Rosy for 9 days, that it was a good idea to allow her dog to "play" with Rosy. DESPITE the fact that Rosy was still healing from her spay surgery, still healing from her hip surgery (both of these are major surgery), and the fact that she has been attacked by another dog & is afraid of them! Common sense is just not common anymore... Prior to this woman allowing the dogs to "play", she admitted that Rosy had growled at her dog (a major sign that a dog is telling you they are uncomfortable!) When the dogs started "playing", their dog grabbed Rosy by the neck, & a fight started. I do not know the intentions of that dog grabbing her neck, whether it was playful or aggressive. I don't care. I am furious that this woman even allowed that after having Rosy for such a short time & KNOWING all that she had been through. I spent hours going over dog body language & how to work with a fearful dog with her. On top of that, the Behavior team at the Shelter who had been working with Rosy ALSO spent an hour with this couple going over what to do & not to do! The couple turned her to me all bloody. She has healed up now from that, but because Rosy was attacked by a dog in her original owners home, then again at this adopters home, she is absolutely TERRIFIED of other dogs. Even if they are much smaller than her... So I would like her to be the only dog in the home so she can relax and be comfortable without worrying about being hurt again. I think one of the reasons she is still reserved here is because there are several other dogs here. I would love to see her go to a home where she can blossom & feel comfortable with someone who has more time to give her one on one time. The shelter marked her ears as having thickening of the skin (sign of a chronic problem), inflammation & thick debris that was so bad that they could not see down her ear, yet when I questioned them about it, they said she was fine. Well it turned out that she had severe ear infections in both ears. She is currently undergoing treatment for that and is almost done. Bull Terriers are known for their ears collecting debris. Her new family needs to be willing to clean her ears once a week (I suggest using Bannix, and can show you how to clean her ears). If a Bull Terriers ears are not cleaned out on a regular basis, this can cause the debris to build up & cause an ear infection. Rosy is just perfect! She is the sweetest little angel. She has been very easy to handle, and has allowed all handling (even cutting her toenails). She is scared when being handled and visible shakes though. It just makes me want to scoop her up in my arms and let her know that she is safe now... I just can not see how anyone would ever get mad at such an absolute dream dog. Rosy comes when called. She is playful. She loves toys & to play fetch. PLEASE NOTE: All of the pets at Safe Haven receive basic training when they come here. All adopters will be given a list of words that your new pet knows at the time of adoption. What each pet learns depends on how much time I have had to work with them, & if that pet has any additional issues that need to be focused on first. The pets here are always improving. Birthday: 10/27/17 Weight at last Vet visit: 27 lbs. (she was dehydrated when confiscated, and she was still very underweight when I picked her up. I could see every ridge in her backbone then. She has gained all the weight that she needed & is probably 30 lbs now (?). It doesn't take much to get a small dog to the right weight.) Cats: She appears to be good with cats. She has gone up to them and just sniffed them. She did growl at my cat though when my cat got in her food bowl... So maybe keep them separated when eating. Small Dogs: She has been attacked by another dog, & is very afraid of other dogs. Even dogs smaller than her. One of the other fosters here (Bryce), barked at her, and she took off with with her tail between her legs. She has scars on her body from being attacked by the other dog (that happened in the previous homes). Large Dogs: As mentioned above, Rosy has been attacked by another dog, & is very afraid of other dogs. With the bigger dogs she avoids eye contact and tries to walk past them as quickly as she can. She has scars on her body from being attacked by the other dog (that happened in the previous homes). Kids: Unknown, but seeing her personality, and how sweet she is, I think she would probably do great in a home with older kids that would be gentle with her. Men: Surprisingly great with men once she gets to know them (the owner that beat her was a man). Women: Sweet & wants to be with you. I don't think her true personality has come out yet. She is still very shy and reserved with me. Bull Terriers are known for being outgoing & very goofy. Strangers: Reserved, but does not run from people and allows petting. Food: I feed all the dogs on a rotational diet. Which means they get a different brand of high quality food each month. I do this because I do not think that one brand can provide all the nutrients that they need. Just like one food can't provide us with all that we need...Plus, who wants to eat the same thing every day? All dogs are fed breakfast (7 am) & dinner (5 pm), & are fed in their crate with their own bowl. Since Rosy came in underweight though, she has been free fed (a full bowl of food out all the time). She would be a great candidate to continue with that because she does not overindulge, & only eats when she is hungry. This is great because it makes your life easier without worrying about getting home to feed the dog! I also add in extra treats like cottage cheese, pumpkin, Mackerel, plain yogurt, peas, and green beans... She's a great eater & has eaten everything I have given her. To be on the safe side though, I have had her on a LID diet, because allergies can also be a cause of ear infections. Crate Trained: Yes, she has not had an accident. She knows the routine & goes inside on her own. It also seems to be a source of comfort for her. She is let out multiple times throughout the day, and can hold it through the night. She is in an over-sized hard plastic carrier. 26" W x 39" L for her comfort. She has a big cushy dog bed in there. I do this for all the dogs that don't chew them up, but Rosy especially needs a big cushy bed because of her hip surgery. Hard surfaces are painful to lay on after hip surgery. House Trained: She appears to be house trained now. I have to crate & rotate since she has been afraid of the other dogs though...She is using the doggy door here, but I often open the door for her because of her hip. She often sits outside the door and waits to be let back in... I noticed that she was hesitant to go outside, so I went out with her, and her willingness to go outside greatly improved. She is very insecure, and it may be awhile before she is confident enough to go out on her own. She will also go out in the rain, which is a huge bonus! If you've ever owned a dog that won't go out when it's raining, then yo know what I mean..... Leash Trained: She absolutely LOVES going for walks & gets excited to go. She is fantastic on a leash. She follows well & I barely have to tell her anything. I have switched to using a flexi-lead with her since she is so easy. I will say though, that she should only do mild exercise for the next 4 months. That means slow 10 min walks for now, or a mellow slow paced game of fetch. As each month passes, you can increase the walk time in small increments. So Feb can be 15 min., March 20 min., etc. Even if she wants to do more, don't let her, or you could do damage from letting her do to much to soon. I have had hip surgery, and it is very painful, but dogs will push through pain to the point of hurting themselves when they are excited to do something. After 4 months (in May), she can resume normal activity & you can allow her to run and jump if she wants to. She had her hip surgery on 11/9/19. Car: Yes, she is great in the car. I have a fairly large truck, & even though she is pretty small, she loads right up. She uses the step to get on the floorboard, then jumps on the seat. I switch her to the back though & buckle her in the with a doggy seat belt. Other issues: I started getting her used to being groomed. She allows all handling, but is scared & visibly shakes. She has dry flaky skin. No doubt from not getting much nutrition. To help her with that, she now gets a fish oil supplement with her food, and I wipe her down with an ACV rinse to condition her skin. You will usually find more pictures & videos of the pets there too! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1405138936478168/ ADOPTING A CAT OR DOG IS UP TO A 20 YEAR COMMITMENT! THEY ARE NOT OBJECTS THAT YOU CAN GET RID OF WHEN THEY BECOME INCONVENIENT. THEY ARE INNOCENT LIVING, BREATHING ANIMALS WITH FEELINGS THAT DEPEND ON YOU TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO TAKE CARE OF, LOVE, & PAY FOR EVERYTHING THIS PET NEEDS FOR UP TO 20 YEARS, THEN PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR AN APPLICATION. * Safe Haven STRONGLY believes that collars should only be used as decoration or to hold the ID tag. If you are trying to restrain your dog, it can easily slip out of a collar. Also, attaching a leash to a collar puts pressure on the neck, which is one of the most sensitive areas of the body, & could hurt them. For these reasons, Safe Haven includes a harness with every dog adoption to ensure the safety of the dog. A harness distributes the weight on the chest & shoulders. It also has a handle on the back that you can grab if need be, without hurting your pet (EX: Dog falls off your boat, just grab the handle & pull your pet back in with no harm done. With a collar, you would have to strangle your dog when pulling your dog in). Also, it is very hard for a dog to slip out of a harness when properly fitted. So it is much easier to restrain them. FAQ: Q: Is this pet still available? A: Status of each pet is posted in the original post on the Facebook page for Safe Haven Animal Rescue of AZ at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1405138936478168/ . It will say the status in ALL CAPS at the very top of the pets post, and updates are posted in the comment section of each pets post. Once on the Facebook page, type the pets name in the search box in the upper right corner to easily pull up all the posts on that pet. Q: Why are your adoption fees so low? A: Safe Haven does things very differently than other rescues do. If you look at our other pets up for adoption, and also our past adoptions, you'll see that ALL our prices are low. We do this because it generates a lot of interest, and gets the pets adopted quickly. The more that get adopted, the more we can rescue. We only deal with pets in danger of being euthanized. The whole point is to save as many lives as possible! We are all about the animals here. And if you want to add a donation to the adoption price to show appreciation for all the hard work we do, then please indicate that in your application! Q: I don't see a phone #. Will someone please call me? A: Everything needed is online. I have found that online is the most efficient way to get all the work done. In the past, when I posted my #, my phone rang off the hook all day. So I spent the whole day on the phone, with not much work to show for it at the end of the day. Again, everything needed is online. Q: How do I adopt this pet? A: Your first step is to fill out an application. http://www.adoptapet.com/Safe-Haven/adoption-application/ Q: Can I adopt if I live out of state? A: Yes, Out of state adoptions are welcome. You have the choice of coming to Litchfield park AZ to meet and adopt, or having the pet transported to you. This also applies if you live farther than an hour away. An additional fee applies if you would like us to transport the pet to you. Fees are $195 for transport + the adoption fee. Fees might be slightly higher for medium and large dogs, depending on the cost of the crate. Fees are not due until transport has been confirmed. All transported pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on their vaccinations. They come with with a collar with ID attached, harness and leash, health certificate if required, bowls and food if it is more than a day trip, a voucher for a Free office visit to Vet, 50% off any Optimum Wellness Plan, 30 days of free Pet Insurance, Other coupons from Partners, and all available paperwork: Spay/Neuter records, Vaccination records, Vet records, Micro records, Recommendation list, etc...
