My story

Name: Clipper Breed: German Shepherd Dog x Farm Dog Mix Sex: Male (Will be neutered by rescue) DOB/Age: Dec 22, 2023 Weight/Height: Known Health Issues: Grade 1 heart murmur. 2 Echos have been performed. No surgery or medication required at this time. Yearly echo's recommended for monitoring, but likely will not cause any issues. Bite History: No. Dogs: Clipper enjoys the company of well-mannered dogs, with proper introductions. He gets picked on easily in certain groups. Cats: With proper training, he should be fine with cats. Kids: Patient kids, with boundaries, are welcome. He is a softer, shy dog, so a loud, rambunctious home would not be a good match. Owner Experience Level: Not for a completely green owner, but suitable for a novice, with training/dog behaviour enthusiasm. Ideal home: Quiet family or single person home, that will enjoy building up a soft dog. Energy Level/Drive: Moderate energy, and low drive. He enjoys toys, and is good at about 2hrs for his hikes. Sports/Activities he'd enjoy: Hiking, swimming, camping, scentwork, backyard games, trick training. He is not a dog looking for a career, but enjoys keeping busy. Swimmer: Learning! Enjoys wading in. All our adoptable dogs are: House trained, Crate Trained, travel well in vehicles, and well started on basic obedience. All Adopters are required to obtain, and maintain pet insurance for their newly adopted companion. ________________________________ Clipper is a very handsome, chill, go-with-the-flow boy, who's looking for a family that matches his lifestyle! He's the perfect mix of affectionate, and independent. Always with you, and loves a good cuddle, but not underfoot. He'd rather be with you, than on you, and loves to just hang! Clipper is your typical teenager, figuring out what he loves in life, and where he fits in. He enjoys routine, and structure, and patterning. He is super easy to live with, never an instigator, and likes his personal space. He enjoys the right canine companion, but would be just as happy solo. He tends to get picked on in groups, and would be best with a female canine companion. Most of his adopted siblings live successfully with cats, and with proper training, I see no reason that he wouldn't also. He is a very soft dog, and doesn't enjoy strangers, so a quiet home, with few visitors is best. He's the kind of dog that would prefer to be in his crate, with something tasty if company is over. He will alert bark, but you'll be on your own to defend! Clipper enjoys a decent walk/hike, 1-2hrs on the daily, and loves just existing in nature. He can be a bit more independent off leash, so putting him through an eCollar class (and passing!), or staying in a fenced area is best, once you have built that level of trust in your training journey. He isn't super enthusiastic about training, but with the right motivation, picks up and patterns really quickly. He is a softer, shier dog, so needs patience and repetition to succeed. If you are easily frustrated, and tend to think, "he's just not listening/being stubborn" easily, he will not be a good match for your home. He is very smart, quite intuitive, and will revert back to what he knows if he is unsure. Simple task or trick training, and/or scentwork would be a great way to help build his confidence and your working relationship with him. He is not a dog I would recommend for someone looking to compete with. Clipper would fit in well with an active family, that enjoys living life with a dog. He's not overly demanding, and with proper knowledge of canine body language, a pretty easy guy to read. He will run through the creek, chase a ball, and watch the fireflies with you at days end. He does still struggle a bit with carsickness, but gets better with more exposure/frequent rides. Cerenia works great for that longer drive to the cottage!
