Dog Name: Gus Age: 1-2 years Gender: Male Breed: Pit mix Weight: 45 lbs Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: Yes Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Yes, but depends on cat Kid friendly: Older kids Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: High Meet Gus (also goes by Gus Gus, Gus Bus, Gus-a-tron, Mr. Gus Man, Gus-a-million, and Crazy Head) a young, goofy, and compact little man. There is nothing more in life that Gus loves more than his family. Although treats, toys, and walks are all a close second. If you’re looking for a companion that is so excited about every single thing in life they bring a smile to your face no matter what, Mr. Gus is your squatty man. As an extra bonus, he is part piglet and has a beautiful symphony of snorts and grunts that he uses to tell you just how excited he is to be alive. Overall, Gus is an amazing city dog, he walks well on a leash, isn’t scared by loud noises or cars, and loves meeting other people and dogs. He has also learned “leave it” and is redirected very easily if another dog doesn’t want to meet him or if he gets too excited. He is a fairly high energy dog and does best if he gets at least one long walk a day (a run or fetch would suffice too). Gus currently has two cat siblings which he is learning how to interact with and how to give them space and time. He does sometimes get very excited and try to chase but once we recall him and say leave it, he typically stops and comes back to us. Gus hasn’t had an accident once yet and is crate trained. He does have a good bit of anxiety, particularly of the separation variety, but exercise, confidence building, crate training and medication all help tremendously. He is a quick learner and very loyal so wants to please. When he is overstimulated or overly excited, he struggles with impulse control and jumps and gets mouthy but is starting to learn better behaviors. He would thrive in an active home with another dog or older kids. He is very strong and when he gets excited moves like a bowling ball so best to avoid young kids, although we are working on that. He is a good apartment/city dog but would do great in many different environments.
