Meet Lilikoi – shy, sweet, and learning to trust Lilikoi is a gentle little pup who’s slowly coming out of her shell. She’s still a bit timid, but every day she gets braver—whether it's trying new things, going up and down stairs, or learning to trust someone new. She’s come a long way already and is full of love for the right person. She sleeps soundly at night and much prefers cuddling up with her person over spending time in a kennel. She's shown signs of being potty trained and hasn’t had any accidents in her foster home, but learning her cues (like sniffing and circling) will help her stay on track. Lilikoi does great with calm, respectful kids and has lived peacefully with another dog—but it’s clear she prefers to be the one and only. She thrives when she has her person all to herself and really just wants to be someone’s shadow. While she’s not aggressive, she’s sensitive and deeply attached to her people. She’s also working through some separation anxiety and tends to bark when left alone, so she’ll do best with someone home more often than not. Her ideal home is quiet and patient, with someone willing to go slow and help her continue to build confidence. Once she bonds, she’s incredibly loyal and affectionate—a true companion dog who wants nothing more than to be close to the one she loves. If you’re looking for a soft, steady presence who will blossom with time and care, Lilikoi might be your perfect match. ----- A Quick but Important Note to All Adopters: Please remember that none of our dogs arrive fully trained. Most come from tough or uncertain beginnings and may have never lived in a home or known basic routines. That means: ✧ They are not potty trained on arrival. Most dogs regress in potty training when moving to a new environment. ✧ They may lack basic manners (like leash walking or appropriate chewing). ✧ They’re learning, growing, and doing their best—but they will need patience, structure, and compassion to succeed. The majority of these pups have lived in the confinement of a cage or kennel run for most - if not all - of their lives. Because of this, we strongly discourage the use of crates for anything other than vehicle transport. They deserve the chance to decompress and learn what true freedom and comfort feel like. Our amazing foster homes work hard to start these dogs on the right path, but they are rescues, not finished products. These dogs need time, consistency, and a loving home willing to meet them where they are. Also, breed designations are our best guesses based on appearance and behavior. We can't guarantee breed, size, adult weight, or coat type. ----- Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Little Dog Rescue. Our dogs come from a variety of sources and backgrounds. They are all in need of adopters that have patience, an understanding of where these dogs have come from, and that there will be an adjustment time when they transition into their forever home. This can include learning basic commands, walking on leash and potty training. Some dogs will pick up on your routine and expectations faster than others. Potty accidents will happen. We find that positive reinforcement, consistency, and routine from the adopter achieves the best results. We are a small, all volunteers team and give 100% of our efforts towards doing right by these pups. We are often juggling many responsibilities at the same time and do our very best to process inquiries and applications in a timely manner. We do prioritize inquiries that have a submitted application on file through the Little Dog Rescue website. We do our best to accurately assign breed designations, however we are unable to guarantee 100% accuracy. Sometimes we only have the dogs appearance to go on. Our adoption fees are thoughtfully considered. The adoption fee is not a purchase price for the dog. It is a fee that is designed to support the overall work of our rescue. Highly desirable dogs and puppies are intentionally listed with a higher adoption fee. This is done to help offset the enormous medical expenses we incur when taking in older pups and special needs medical dogs whose adoption fees do not come close to covering their expenses. In addition, the vast majority of our dogs are brought in from out of state and incur transport fees along with their medical and acquisition costs. We ask that you take all of these things into consideration, and we look forward to finding a great match for your family.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lilikoi, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
