My story

Brutus is a big-hearted, big-bodied boy looking for a family to call his own! This handsome large breed mix has a playful, active side — he loves to run, play, and get the zoomies — but what he really loves most is you. Once he feels safe, Brutus turns into a total cuddle bug who melts right into your arms.Having come from the streets, Brutus can be a little nervous in new environments, but with patience and gentle encouragement, his affectionate personality quickly shines through. Because he’s still learning what it means to live in a home, Brutus can be a bit of a shoe thief or get into mischief if left unsupervised — a crate or puppy-proofed space will help set him up for success. He’s looking for an adopter who understands or is willing to learn about working shepherd breeds and their need for exercise, structure, and mental stimulation.IN-SHELTER NOTES & IDEAL HOMESIZE:77 lbs.HOME TYPE:House or Townhouse with no shared entrances (Private exit homes)CHILDREN:Yes- Older dog savvy children.CATS & SMALL ANIMALS:No - has shown some prey drive behaviours.OTHER DOGS:Yes - Potentially compatible with other dogs. He’s shown to get along well with other dogs and would likely enjoy a calm, friendly canine companion to help him build confidence.ACTIVITY/ENERGY LEVEL:High; will need a lot of daily exercise, enrichment and mental stimulation.HUMAN COMPATIBILTY:His new family must research or have experience with working shepherd type dogs and understand their activity needs. TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/NEEDS:At least 2 in-person training sessions to work on socialization, basic training, and desensitizing to new sounds/environments. HUMAN SOCIAL IN SHELTER:Very human social once comfortable.FAVOURITE THINGS:He loves snacks, playing with his shelter friends, cuddles!**For more information on any behaviours stated above, please check out our behaviour fact sheet: https://kwsphumane.ca/BehavioursandDefinitions**Please remember that animals are coming back from foster care to the centres for their meet and greets. They will be experiencing a new environment and meeting new people, which means they may not exhibit the same behaviours they did in their foster videos or while in foster care.If you are viewing this through 24PetConnect by PetPlace or Adopt-A-Pet, please visit our website https://kwsphumane.ca/

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Brutus - Stratford, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
