My story

Cashew has already lived more than most dogs twice his age. Found on the side of the road and barely clinging to life, this resilient little guy was rescued by a kind stranger and quickly placed into foster care. With some medical attention and a whole lot of love, he bounced back - and he hasn't slowed down since. At just over a year old, Cashew is every bit the curious, energetic puppy you'd expect. He is endlessly on the move - chasing a ball, entertaining himself with a toy, or just exploring whatever catches his attention next. His foster describes him as smart and food-motivated, which makes him surprisingly easy to work with despite his high energy. He is crate trained and almost fully house trained, and he takes treats calmly right alongside other dogs. Cashew does best in a home with a fenced yard where he can burn off steam, though an equally active owner willing to commit to multiple daily walks could make it work. He gets along well with dogs though he is still learning to respect boundaries - What Cashew needs most is a patient family who will channel that brilliant, busy mind - whether through training, fetch, or just an adventure-filled life together. He has come so far from that roadside and has so much more ahead of him. Could that next chapter start with you? Good with adults: Yes Good with kids: Yes, does jump to say hi to everyone- working on that! Good with other dogs: Yes, but he still has a lot of puppy behavior so he might annoy older dogs Good with cats: No House trained: Working on it and doing great! Crate trained: Yes Energy level: Med-High - Will play fetch and play with toys on his own some but is always moving other than quick naps Can be handled/touched: Yes Barker: Yes, but not without reason barks at dog on other side of the fence and when people come to deliver packages Flight risk: No; however, all dogs should be considered flight risks in new environments Food aggressive: No, but prefers not to share his food with other dogs- eats in crate Walks on leash: Yes, does pull and working on this Leash reactive to people or dogs: No Rides well in car: Yes, he does very well Destructive: He is a moderate chewer Needs a home with a yard: Yes, unless the owner is willing to do multiple walks a day Needs a home with another dog: Not needed Can live in an apartment: Not ideal Please visit our website niagaradogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs.
