My story

Ato was one of the dogs on the euthanasia list at Yeongyang Shelter in Korea. We first learned about him through a volunteer's post explaining that he wasn't receiving rescue offers because he was very timid around people and didn't have the kind of appearance that immediately caught people's attention. A heartbreaking video of Ato was available with tears of blood running from his eyes because his eyelashes were painfully scratching them. Thankfully, a generous sponsor made it possible for him to receive the corrective surgery he desperately needed. After his recovery, no one came forward to adopt him. That was when Ato was brought into foster care. As part of his socialization journey, Ato spent about a month in foster care, where he gained valuable experience living in a home. He is now at a professional training center, continuing to build confidence while patiently waiting for his forever family. Ato was one of 16 dogs rescued together. Almost all of his friends have now found loving homes, and he is one of the last two still waiting. Ato is a quiet and thoughtful dog who takes his time with people. He doesn't rush over for attention or demand affection. Instead, he watches from a comfortable distance and slowly learns that you are someone he can trust. Once he feels safe, his sweet and affectionate personality begins to shine. He loves being near his person and enjoys affection on his own terms, but he is also perfectly happy resting quietly in his favorite spot nearby. Ato is wonderful with other dogs. He gets along beautifully with everyone, rarely barks, never starts conflicts, and is incredibly patient and accepting. He could be happy as an only dog or living peacefully with another calm, easygoing dog. Ato has never shown aggression. He doesn't bite or growl, and all he really asks for is time, patience, and a safe place to call home. Ato isn't the dog who steals your heart the moment you meet him. He's the dog you fall in love with little by little. The more you get to know him, the more special he becomes. His name means "gift," and I truly believe that one day, Ato will become the greatest gift his family never knew they were waiting for. He may not be the dog everyone notices first, but he'll be the dog you never forget.
