Protecting pets and the people who love them is our number one priority. We need your help to ensure that adoptions facilitated by your organization at a PetSmart store are following PetSmart Charities policies and procedures.
As we previously communicated to adoption partners on July 2, 2020, all adoption partner staff and volunteers are required to wear a face covering at all times while on PetSmart premises regardless of local mandate or order. Effective July 20, 2020, all customers and potential adopters are now required to wear face coverings while in our U.S. and Puerto Rico stores.
The adoption partner is responsible for providing face coverings to its staff and volunteers to comply with this requirement. If a potential adopter or customer does not have a face covering, please ask a PetSmart associate for one. To learn more about steps PetSmart has taken to keep people and pets safe, click here.
Required Contracts:
Additionally, as part of the PetSmart Charities In-store Adoption Program requirements, we want to remind you that there are two separate contracts that must be executed by the pet parent in order to finalize an adoption.
- An Adoption Contract. An adoption contract shifts ownership from the adoption partner to the pet parent. Your own form of an adoption contract must be signed by the pet parent at the time the adoption takes place. Additionally, a copy must be provided to the pet parent.
- An Adoption Release Form. The pet parent must sign the PetSmart Adoption Release Form through the store’s iPad at the time the adoption takes place. One Adoption Release Form must be used for each adopted pet, and the form must be completed in the store by the pet parent.
The Adoption Release Form cannot be entered in at a later time or date as part of a larger grouping, or what may be known as a “batch entry.”
PetSmart associates, adoption partners staff and volunteers are NOT allowed to sign the Adoption Contract or the Adoption Release Form on behalf of the pet parent.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you and your staff and volunteers understand and comply with requirements in this email, our Adoption Partner Manual, and all of our policies and procedures. Violations of any PetSmart or PetSmart Charities policies and procedures may be ground for suspension or termination as an adoption partner.
