Basil

My story

Basil is a six-year-old Great Dane with a sweet personality, a goofy streak, and plenty of love to give. He came into the care of Big Hearts for Big Breeds after his owner was no longer able to provide the care he needed, and his foster family is already discovering just how special this handsome boy is. Basil is wonderful in the house. He has had no potty accidents, isn't destructive, and listens beautifully to his foster family. He loves a good stuffy and enjoys playing fetch—although he's still working on that whole “bring it back” part! He is also completely fascinated by anything shiny, especially flashlights and other little flashes of light. His foster family says Basil seems to absolutely adore kids, and he has shown no interest in chasing lizards, rabbits, or other dogs. His compatibility with cats and small dogs is still being evaluated. Basil is doing well on his journey toward becoming an even more polished companion. He's okay on leash and shows plenty of potential to improve with continued practice. We're not yet sure how he does with extended crate time—he hasn't spent much time in one, although he hasn't seemed bothered by being crated for shorter periods. Basil is looking for a family who will appreciate his goofy charm, curious nature, and wonderfully good house manners. He's a big-hearted Great Dane who is ready for a fresh start and a forever home where he can be loved, included, and occasionally trusted to supervise the neighborhood.
