My story

What is your name? Hi, my name is Nitro. Sounds impressive doesn’t it? How old are you? I’m somewhere around 16 months old; I was probably born in the fall of 2017. What do you look like? Everyone tells me I’m VERY handsome. I suppose I am! I’m chocolate brown with white spots. My ears look like they’re professionally clipped and I have some weight to gain. My foster mom guesses I’ll be about 70 pounds (maybe more?) when I fill out. What do you like to eat? I love my doggie kibble and treats! I eat Purina Pro Plan Focus for sensitive skin. That’s not because I have sensitive skin but because all of Even Chance fosters eat that.  You can get me to focus on just about anything by offering me a treat. I’m food motivated – big time! But I’m not possessive or controlling with my food which I’m told is really good. What kind of personality do you have? My foster parents say I’m like a gangly teenager. I don’t realize how big I am and I’m very playful so I tend to run and slide into walls when I’m chasing a ball. I’m friendly with other dogs and I greet them well with lots of sniffing and licking. If I get too interested, I can be easily re-directed with treats. I love humans most of all. I love the way they pet me, talk to me, feed me, walk me, play with me, keep me safe….pretty much everything. I don’t seem to be afraid of much and I’m pretty laid back about most new adventures. Describe your perfect day: My perfect day would start waking up and eating. I love to drink a lot of water too and don’t seem to be able to stop unless a human tells me to. Then, I’ll meander outside to potty. I hang out in my crate when my foster parents go to work and I don’t seem to mind it at all as long as I have toy in there with me. Then when my foster parents get home I love to go for a walk in the neighborhood. I finish the day with dinner, playing with my foster brother and hanging on the couch with the fam. What is your favorite toy? I don’t have a favorite per se. I like balls but if my foster brother takes them from me, I don’t mind. My foster parents are going to see if they can find something I really like. They’re keeping toys in a special spot for now and introducing them slowly so no one gets possessive. Do you know any tricks? I know how to sit. I do a great job sitting when I’m told and will work for treats! I can be a little distracted so I haven’t learned much beyond that but I’m sure I’ll learn more. What scares you? Not much. I’m not a fan of the iRobot in the house. I bark and paw at it so my foster mom puts me in my crate when it’s hovering around the house picking up dirt. Do you like cats? I don’t know. I do really well with other dogs so I may just be okay with cats. Do you have any doggie best friends? Dune, my foster brother, is my bestest friend. He and I love to play together. If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be? Sitting on a human’s lap. How is your health? I’m really healthy. I am still a little skinny so I’m getting lots of food to help plump me up. That’s just because I spent awhile without eating regularly. I had some tummy issues and my family learned I had giardia. They’re getting me all fixed up and healthy, though! Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion? I live with my foster parents, their daughter and Dune. I’m really interested in their daughter who has autism but she’s made it clear that I can be a little much for her so I’m taking it slow. I love hanging with all of the humans and Dune. Where do you hang out when you are home alone? I like my crate. It keeps me safe and protected. Where do you sleep? I like to sleep in my crate because it’s super warm and comfy. My foster parents also say it keeps me from getting into trouble. I’m not sure why they say that! What do you love about your foster family? I love that they feed me! And, I love running around in their house. I also love the backyard and taking walks with them. I’ve made a big impression in the neighborhood and I love meeting all of the people! What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents? No one is really sure. A day care in the city found me wandering around. They had seen my former human walking me but then they saw me without him for a long time. That’s probably why I’m so skinny now. Apparently I was really hungry and a man walked by the day care with a bag of fast food which I just knew was for me, so I swiped it. That’s when they called animal control. Jessi and Danielle from Even Chance found me and decided I should come home with them. I went to Danielle’s and learned lots of good obedience items and also how to chill in a crate. Then, my new foster parents said they wanted me to come live with them until we could find my forever home. So far so good! Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they grow up. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for you and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nitro, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
