Zay is a 5 year old mountain cur mix with a big head and an even bigger heart! He weighs approximately 60 lbs. He came to us from a high kill shelter in Rocky Mount, NC. We don't know much about Zay's background, but he probably had a hard life - he has a large, hairless scar around his neck, and several patches on his elbows and ankles, probably from being chained up on a concrete slab for most of his life. He doesn't really understand how to play with toys, probably because he never had them - he only chews bones occasionally and doesn't care much about balls or squeaky toys. He LOVES tug-of-war, though, and his Kong filled with peanut butter! He adores walks and runs outside, and is eager to meet new dogs and people. He loves cuddles, especially on a soft blanket, and will fall asleep in anyone's lap. He is great with kids, and is a fan favorite with the families in my neighborhood. Zay stays out in the house during the day and does not chew, dig, or otherwise destroy in any way. He rarely barks. He is great in the car. He is house trained and can go up to 9 hours between trips to the bathroom. He has EXCELLENT recall and will walk right along with you on nature walks off-leash. He is incredibly food motivated and will do anything for a treat. Zay's one flaw is that he does pull pretty hard when he wants to meet a new person or dog on our walks, which is not ideal if the person is afraid of dogs or the other dog is not friendly. He has already gotten much better about this, however, with a little training! If you want a low-maintenance companion to love you and your family unconditionally, Zay is the perfect fit!
