Bacon was owner surrendered to the Hesperia Shelter; his name at the time was, and still is, Bacon. He came in with another dog and the other dog got adopted, leaving Bacon behind. Bacon is most likely the age of 2/3 and weighs about 30 lbs. We had him DNA tested and he is Tibetan terrier, Shih Tzu/Maltese, and Lhasa apso. I am guessing the Tibetan is an overriding factor due to his size of 30 lbs. Bacon will need professional grooming on a regular basis (every 6-8 weeks, maybe longer in span, depending on growth and if he gets summer shave downs). Even though some of Bacon’s photos show his bulky coat, he had to be shaved down due to being overly-matted. So we have started his coat over from scratch. He seems much happier and freer now! No more of that bulky weight weighing him down! Bacon is a shy dog initially if he does not yet know you, but he begins to warm up somewhat almost right away, upon meeting you (and the remainder will happen after a week or so). I notice he is like this with people he does not know, as well as dogs that he does not yet know. One of the reasons is because he is a sensitive dog. After he knows you, the goofy, playful, fun side comes out, but he still has times where he just goes off on his own and chills. Bacon has an endearing nature and is a “leaner.” He leans into you for quiet attention and affection. I feel that Bacon got lost along the way due to neglect and being an outdoor-only pet, thus, he can sometimes come off as aloof, but he is overall very people-oriented and is a gentle soul. He seems to walk quite well on the leash. Now that he is rescued, he will be exposed to a happier and more ‘interactive with his people’ lifestyle. Happier days are ahead! Bacon seems to get along very well with all dogs, male, female, larger or smaller. Again, his initial inclination, when meeting strange dogs, is to be standoffish. Because Bacon came with Bugle from the shelter, Bacon and Bugle really like each other and play with each other a lot. Bacon also plays well with Gemma (either of these two dogs are a good match for Bacon, if someone is looking for two good dogs together, but this is absolutely not necessarily my wish or design – please do not be dissuaded from asking me about either Bacon, Gemma, or Bugle due to this statement). He very much enjoys the yard, and enjoys watching the world go by, just chilling. He has an interactive side, with other dogs, and other times, he just goes off and chills on his own – he is independent like that. Bacon is basically an obedient dog. He always obeys me when I give him an instruction. Having had his roots as an “outdoor only dog,” that was not well cared for, he now looks to have a human leader for guidance and help him to achieve a happier state of life. Bacon did well at the groomer; however, he did not like his legs being shaved. He was fine with all other aspects while being groomed. He is crate-trained, enjoying his rawhide chew at bedtime, and he is potty-trained (however, potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment). He is a very quiet dog however; he will alert bark if someone comes to the house or yard. He is not destructive in the house. The best fit for Bacon is with another properly fitted dog to be his friend and playmate, or, adopted with either Gemma or Bugle since they already know each other and get along, or as an only dog in an array of situations. I think he is a fairly versatile dog given the fit makes sense to me. I think a home with some semblance of a yard, even if small, is his best fit, since he enjoys chilling outdoors. For this reason, a doggie door or an open slider would be ideal. Bacon is a sweet, gentle and submissive soul that has shown no skittish or aggressive tendencies, but just seems more cautious and tentative with strange people or strange dogs until he has had more time to get to know you and then he becomes more relaxed and will then even be goofy or silly. NOTE: We only adopt dogs as primarily INDOOR dogs. Dogs can go outside to play, potty, to sun themselves at will, but should never be excluded to an outside area. You do not need to give a dog the run of the entire house, and an appropriate sized wire crate works very well during a transitional phase. Bacon is neutered, fully vaccinated, Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Bacon, email Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. In the email, please provide some information about your home, family, other pets, and your dog experience. Please also check your spam folder for an email reply from the rescue. If you wish, please also provide a phone number. Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue is a private, home-based rescue. We seek stable homes that can provide a loving environment for the dogs in our care. There is an application process that precedes meeting a dog (applications are not online). The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue unless you do not receive a response from your email within 24 hours (evening to night emails may get a response the following morning). Please also visit my website at: http://www.angelsheartdogrescue.com and go to the Adoption Tab to read about the adoption process.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bacon - I do not shed! 30 lbs!, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
