My story

Rosie is a beautiful 6-1/2 year old 12 lb Yorkie. Sweet Rosie is being fostered in Dunedin, FL UPDATED BIO 06/05/2019: Rosie here. I am told all the time how precious and cute I am and what a sweet disposition I have. I’m not bragging or anything. All the people I meet seem to love me! They say I am very “chill” (whatever that means, but I think it’s a good thing), and that I seem to make myself comfortable wherever I am. And that is very true. I am a professional lizard chaser and I can occupy myself for hours chasing those little critters in the back yard. My Foster Mom says she is very proud of me because I will now come when she calls me. I guess I never did that before and I always get a treat when I obey her so that surely helps. I love my long walks and follow my Foster Mom wherever she goes. I don’t bark much except for when I get hungry or I want something else that Foster Mom says she is trying to translate. She tells me she is learning to “speak Rosie”. I am not much on swimming or the pool, but I do enjoy a nice beach walk. I love riding in the car, too. Although I get along with everyone, both 2-legged and 4-legged, I really prefer the company of my human and the attention that goes along with that. Sometimes there are other dogs around and I might play with them for a minute or two, but then I am done. I will do well in an adult household, with a couple or one person, where I can be the center of attention. I have been diagnosed with a probable Inflammatory Bowel Disease and will need to maintain a very strict, prescription diet for the rest of my life, so my adoptive family must be willing to adhere to this to maintain my good health. I will be a most loving companion and will make you smile each and every day. UPDATED BIO 05/12/2019: Rosie was adopted from UYR in January, 2018, but due to an undiagnosed genetic digestive issue, her family sadly surrendered her back to UYR so that she would get the much-needed medical attention and thorough diagnostic testing she needs. Since she arrived in her foster home 5 weeks ago, she has seen a specialist and her diagnosis was a probable Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Rosie will need to be on a restricted prescription diet for the rest of her life – the monthly costs of this RX food is about $75. This must be strictly followed by her adoptive family so that Rosie can maintain the great health she has had for the past 5 weeks. Rosie’s sweet disposition and loving nature puts a smile on the faces of all who meet her. She is a friend to all – both two-legged and four-legged. She quickly adapted to her foster mom and will most likely adapt to her forever home just as quickly. She would make a wonderful companion to a family who wants a furry best friend and a loyal companion who enjoys having her follow them around everywhere they go. Rosie loves her long walks and car rides and is always ready and willing to go wherever her person goes. She has a funny and kind of silly and goofy personality which is oh-so-endearing. She often bounces around and runs in circles if she feels she is not getting enough attention – sweet! Rosie is okay with all dogs, but does shy away from larger and/or rambunctious dogs. She would be okay being an only dog, but it’s too early to tell if that is a requirement. Her foster mom has observed that she ignores other dogs that come into the home to visit. She gets along with them, but prefers the company of her person over the company of other dogs. She would be okay with kitty cats in the home. Rosie is fully house-trained and enjoys doing her business on her long walks. She is very well-mannered on the leash as well. She hasn’t quite engaged in play with toys in her foster home yet, but that may come later. She enjoys sleeping in bed with her person, and loves to lie beside them or in their lap. Rosie’s perfect home would be an adult household where she will be the center of attention and absolutely the perfect doggie companion. Rosie is now ready for adoption and will surely make her forever family smile each and every day.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Rosie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
