ORIGINAL BIO: Cantaloupe was rescued from a local kill shelter where he had been brought in as a stray. He caught his foster mom's eye one day, shortly after he came in, because he is very unique in coloration. He is an orange tabby but his markings and the lightness of his orange are beautiful and unusual. She checked him out and he was awesome and calm so he was tagged for rescue and entered FFAR's foster/adoption program when his stray-hold period was over. Cantaloupe has a great personality. He isn't alpha but he isn't shy either. He's right in the sweet spot in the middle and gets along with kids, cats and dogs. He is young, under a year. Cantaloupe is waiting for a loving forever home where he can be admired and loved. How about yours??!! UPDATE: Sadly, Cantaloupe was recently returned because his owner was suffering with severe allergies. While "allergies" is often an excuse people give to get rid of their pets and always suspect for those of us in rescue, this one was undoubtedly for real, as is apparent with information supplied, along with write up they did on this kitty which is as follows: "We are absolutely in love with the little guy, so it is 100% on me and not him. He has a cat tree with a scratching post that he uses and has never clawed our furniture. He's never had an accident and will even meow after going so you know to go clean up after him (kind of odd but funny). We moved him over to the tidy cat ceramic pellets and pee pads and he uses those fine, but was originally on just normal litter so I dont think he'd have a problem going back to that. He's been highly affectionate, loves to sit with you, lets you rub his belly, flops over on his side when you pet him even to get more love. We've had several people over and he's not one to even run and hide. He sits with our guests and lets them love on him just the same. He's pretty quiet, and really just meows when it is dinner time (around 4pm, we have an autofeeder that if it rotates to empty we hear about). He has been taught "go to bed" means for him to run to a bathroom we close him in at night to try and help reduce the allergens and because we can't let him sleep on our bed. He is on just regular IAMS (the orange chicken bag) and does great with that and loves his treats. We of course never declawed him and just trimmed them for him. He's never once hissed, bitten, scratched or anything. I almost think he had small children (we don't have any) at his first home because he will literally let you mess with him, roll him around, hold him, pick him up, etc and is super patient and never gets fussy. You can even use a hand vacuum on him and he doesn't freak out, so since he is literally just calm and chilled out about everything I'm thinking he had some small kids and he just is used to being messed around with. He has a small dog bed in the two rooms we are in the most and he will just come in and fall asleep on his back all four feet up in the air. He really just likes to be in the same room as us and if we are willing, he likes to be in your lap, but if not (like if we are at the computer) he's totally fine just sleeping in the same room. He's never been fed table scraps but also seems to have zero interest in them. Just to see if he had any interest, we offered him some like chicken or things and he just smells it and walks off so he's not even a food fiend or will sit and meow at your feet. We leave the toilet lids up (personal preference) but he never gets in them or anything. Honestly he's perfect. Everything anyone has ever had complaints about cats with (meow too much, pee on things, scratch furniture, knock things off shelves, etc) he just never does. We are absolutely in love with the little guy, so it is 100% on me and not him." Such detail rarely accompanies one of our cats so his owners, who had him for slightly over one year, know him better than anyone. He is still a stunning cat, but he is now a HUGE cat (pics are from a year ago)! If he sounds pretty perfect it's because he is! His previous owners are happy to talk to his new family and supply any additional information they might need. For further information please contact us at www.furryfriendsanimalrescue.org/contact-us. Anyone interested in our cats will be required to fill out an adoption application. All our cats will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. We do ask for a $140 adoption donation. To fill out an application on line, just go to www.furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and click on the Adoption Application link.
