My story

CAT PEOPLE!! MEOW MEOW MEEEEOW meow.meow! That means "Listen up please! This cat needs you!" (You didn't know I spoke cat, did you?) ;-P Okay, okay, I may not be as fluent in cat as I would like to have you believe... but I CAN pick up on some social cues that say a cat is unhappy. Such as hissing. And swatting. And glaring at you like you just threw all the catnip out the window. So without further ado... Meet Gizmo! 😂 Look, I'm not going to sugar-coat it. This guy is not happy. And he has every right to not be happy. Gizmo's owner surrendered him to the shelter when they moved, and Gizmo has had a very hard time adjusting. Staff and volunteers have been working quite a bit with Gizmo and he HAS made progress. To start, this picture proves a lot. In previous weeks, Gizmo refused to move from his box in one of the (open) kennels. He just sat there petrified, with his eyes huge. This week, Gizmo was looking much more relaxed and had found a new spot by the window! AND, a staff member even pet Gonzo the other day! Now all this paints a picture of a pretty unhappy cat, right? So imagine my surprise when I read Gizmo's owner surrender notes: "OWNER STATED CAT WAS GOOD AROUND HIS JACK RUSSEL TERRIER BUT THE JRT DID NOT CARE FOR THE CAT. GREAT WITH CHILDREN, NEVER SCRATCHED. OWNER IS MOVING OUT OF STATE AND CANNOT TAKE CAT W HIM." Well. That's quite a difference, isn't it? Clearly, Gizmo has had his heart broken and needs to learn to trust again. You know that old Toni Braxton song... "Unbreak my heart! Say you love me agaaaaain! Undo this hurt you caused when you walked out the door and walked out of my life... Unbreak my heeeaaaart!" Excuse me. Sometimes I get carried away. But yeah, that's basically what Gizmo needs; someone to unbreak his heart. Is that special person you? I definitely think Gizmo can learn to love again, but I can't promise you he won't glare at you any time you karaoke "Unbreak my Heart" to him. ;-) You can visit 2 yr old Gizmo at the MCAC West shelter at 2500 S. 27th Ave., Phx. Hours are 11-6 Mon-Fri and 11-5 Sat & Sun. Gizmo's adoption fee includes 3 in 1 vaccination and neuter surgery. Gizmo is in a cat suite with a few other cats and doesn't seem to mind them at all; he could potentially do well with your cat at home too.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Gizmo, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
