My story

Loki is a handsome, well socialized, and happy 9 1/2 month old puppy.  His previous family has done a very good job with Loki, making him a great companion for a family who understands the breed and their needs.  He is good with everyone including children of all ages and was living a good life, until unforeseen situations caused his family to be unable to continue caring for him.  Loki is still unsure in his foster home but is a fun-loving boy and is enjoying playing, going for walks and getting lots of treats.  Loki weighs approximately 90 lbs.  If you are seriously interested in making Loki a part of your family, we do ask that you research the breed prior to applying. Check Ugly Mutts main website for more pictures. Here is what Loki's foster family had to say about him: Loki is a young, loving giant, who loves to give kisses and play time. He is full of energy and well socialized. He is very sweet, goofy, mischievous and seems to suffer from Selective Hearing Syndrome (aka - he is a puppy). He can do well in a household where he’s kept physically and mentally stimulated, with lots of space and a large fenced yard. Loki, not only is a large puppy full of energy, but he is a powerful breed, therefore he requires an experienced alpha and that his owner be physically able to play with him and hold him. Loki seems to be in great shape and health. He has a beautiful soft coat and he’s very clean. Loki is a young pup full of puppy energy. He gets excited easily and you can find him stomping around the house while playing and chasing you to join in on the fun. He is very strong and he doesn’t know it. He sheds moderately. Loki appears friendly with all age groups, however he is a large dog and can easily knock down children or fragile individuals. Loki is definitely not shy. He wants to see and touch everyone and everything. Loki has not exhibited any aggression. Loki has a medium size foster brother with whom he wants to play with all day. We have limited their play time due to his size. He doesn’t seem to be aware he is much larger and stronger. He tries to be the dominant dog in the house and a bit of a bully. He seems to really enjoy the canine companion though. He has met with a small dog on a walk and was just happy to sniff him. We haven’t introduced our cats to Loki. When we leave the house, Loki cries for a few minutes before settling down. Loki doesn’t seem to have any fears, but dislikes being left behind, like any puppy. He is very playful, he enjoys all sort of toys, loves being chased and he is very food motivated. Loki is very active around the house. He likes to sniff everything several times, and pushes his limits to see what he can get away with. Again, we believe this is because he is a puppy and everything is new for him, but he has been needing constant supervision around the house, when not crated. Loki needs space to grow and play. He likes to be with company, human or canine. He is very active and strong. We recommend the adopter have a open schedule and be very experienced with large powerful breeds. Loki is very food motivated and he is tall and sees over the counters. He will serve himself to anything he likes: Food, shoes, pillows, children toys... He is also very young and testing his boundaries. Loki knows basic commands such as paw, other paw, (sit means lay down to him), and then there’s his selective hearing, which could be because he knows we are not his owners, therefore won’t accept our bossing around... He will benefit from more training and reinforcement. He needs a pack leader and a committed best friend. Loki does his business outside, he hasn’t had any accidents in the house. Loki is crate trained. He does not like to go in on command, but will do it if he sees a treat / kong or desirable toy. He may whine for a few minutes, but settles down for a snooze quickly. We have been using the crate to help him decompress and relax when he gets very hyper. He does go in and out voluntarily during play time when the door is open. However, he does not like to be in there for more than a few hours, he becomes restless and sad. Loki does well on the leash with the right collar, with some minor corrections. (We did see that he walked fine on leash with his previous owners, including an 8 year old child, but as he doesn't see us as his family, he is more hesitant to do as we ask). He hasn’t tried to escape or bolt. Loki did very good in the car. He laid quietly. Loki is a sweet big guy, who likes attention, company and stimulation. He is very active and needs space to run around. As mentioned before, he is a powerful breed and needs to have a leader or else he takes charge. A family with lots of time, active, and experienced would be a good choice for Loki. If you are interested in adopting Loki, please do your research on the breed before applying. If you think this pet would be a good choice for your situation, please visit our main website at http://www.uglymuttsdogrescue.com and submit an adoption application.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Loki, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
