FERDA aka FREDDY (Purebred white with tan SH Deer Head Chihuahua) Only $95 adoption!!! My adoption profiles tend to be long & very detailed. Please read the ENTIRE Adoption Profile (all the way to the FAQ) so you understand everything about this dog & if you are a good match for him. This adorable little man was confiscated & ended up at a local Shelter because someone reported the dogs being left alone after the owner was hospitalized. I felt sorry for the owner at first and planned to reunite them if the owner recovered, until I saw that Freddy had wounds all over his face and head, and acts like someone has hit him before. He was also very skinny. So now some lucky person gets to adopt this really cute little man! He came in with the name Ferda, but I think that sounds to feminine for a little boy, so I transitioned it to Freddy. Freddy is super sweet and very affectionate. He just wants to be with you! To the point of being a little needy, so that has to be something that you like. Freddy is a TOTAL lovebug! He will quickly crawl in your lap when you sit down, & he loves to be held and carried. He will give both you and the other dogs kisses. He would be a GREAT companion dog, as All he wants is to be with you! Freddy would do best in a home with someone who is home a lot and would spend a lot of time with him. If you have a friendly & playful small dog that he can play with, that would be even better! ALL the dogs absolutely LOVE him. He is a very friendly, social, sweet little man that loves to play. He has brought a very playful energy to the house, and ALL the dogs want to play with him! We've been working on basic training and manners. He gets mouthy when excited, much like puppies do. He doesn't do it hard at all, but it is something that he should learn is not acceptable. I can show you how to continue to gently teach him not to do it. So far he comes when called, and knows the word "Inside" (to go in the crate). He does have separation anxiety, and I am working with him on that by teaching him the word "No", giving him routine and showing him he is safe, giving him organic CBD oil, and exercise. His anxiety has reduced by about 90%. If you would like to get the same CBD that I use, here is the link: https://maxandneocbd.com/collections/all/products/cbd-oil-for-dogs-250mg?sca_ref=283513.uAZ4qYC8KZ Please choose "Safe Haven Animal Rescue of AZ" when they ask you what Rescue you like. All of the pets at Safe Haven receive basic training when they come here. What each pet learns depends on how much time I have had to work with them, & if that pet has any additional issues that need to be focused on first. The pets here are always improving. Birthday: 7/23/18 (I think he may be younger than what the Vet estimated. He is very "puppy-like"...) Weight at last Vet visit: 7 lbs (he was very skinny when he came in, and I am working on getting some weight on him. He should be more like 9 lbs. Two lbs is a big deal on a small dog.) Cats: I don't have any cats here right now to test him, but he is so sweet and friendly, I would be surprised if he wasn't great with cats too. Small Dogs: The Shelter said he lived with other small dogs, and he is FANTASTIC with all the small dogs here. He was avoidant at first, then showed interest and played after a few minutes. He is very playful, and gets everyone else in a playful mood too! If you are looking for two small dogs, he gets along great with all the ones here, and would be a great pair with any of them. Large Dogs: He barked at them at first, but now he will walk around with them and shows interest in them. He will still bark at any new large dog though... I am worried that a new large dog would not tolerate that and hurt him. All the large dogs here are very friendly & tolerant of a dog barking at them... He is still a little apprehensive of the large dogs here, but is getting used to them. Kids: Unknown, but I imagine him to be sweet and loving with kids. Kids older than 7 please that would be gentle with him. He is small and could get hurt easily. Men: Unknown Women: Loving, affectionate, and just wants to be with you and do whatever you are doing! Strangers:This means YOU... It took him about 2 days to get used to me, but he is getting more and more used to strangers. Food: I feed all the dogs on a rotational diet. Which means they get a different brand of high quality food each month. I do this because I do not think that one brand can provide all the nutrients that they need. Just like one food can't provide us with all that we need...Plus, who wants to eat the same thing every day? All dogs are fed breakfast (7 am) & dinner (5 pm), & are fed in their crate with their own bowl. He gets 1/4 cup for breakfast and again for dinner for a total of 2/4 C. of food a day. Plus I put 10 drops of CBD oil, & some type of extra goody like canned food, cottage cheese, organic pureed pumpkin, herbs, or an organic veggie. He's a picky eater, despite coming in so skinny, he would not eat just the dry food. So I had to add canned food & mix it in. I am now gradually decreasing the canned food to get him used to eating just dry food. I'm also switching him to puppy food for the extra nutrients & calories to help him gain weight. Crate Trained: Yes, he will go in when asked ("Inside"). I always give him a treat for doing it. He has been great and has held it every time. I don't see a need to crate him though unless it's to slowly introduce him to any dogs in your home. He appears to be house trained, and doesn't want to be in the crate and he will be vocal about it to let you know. He barks, fusses, and pants really heavy like he's having an anxiety attack when he sees me or hears me in another room, but can't get to me. He is not vocal when he has free reign of the house. I had to keep him in a crate initially until he got over his upper respiratory infection that he caught at the Shelter. House Trained: Yes, he is using the doggy door here with no problems so far. Leash Trained: Yes, he's easy to walk. He's great on the leash and loves to go for walks. Daily walks are good for him, and will help get that nervous energy out. Car: He softly fusses when in the truck, and will bark if I get out to open the gate. Which tells me he is not used to car rides and is scared. He is slowly getting used to them. I have him seat belted in in the back seat, and have no doubt that if he wasn't buckled in, he would be in my lap (which is dangerous). Other issues: I already listed his issues above. Overall, he's an absolutely wonderful little man that will eventally get over his issues as he gains confidence. You will usually find more pictures & videos of the pets there too! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1405138936478168/ ADOPTING A CAT OR DOG IS UP TO A 20 YEAR COMMITMENT! THEY ARE NOT OBJECTS THAT YOU CAN GET RID OF WHEN THEY BECOME INCONVENIENT. THEY ARE INNOCENT LIVING, BREATHING ANIMALS WITH FEELINGS THAT DEPEND ON YOU TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO TAKE CARE OF, LOVE, & PAY FOR EVERYTHING THIS PET NEEDS FOR UP TO 20 YEARS, THEN PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR AN APPLICATION. * Safe Haven STRONGLY believes that collars should only be used as decoration or to hold the ID tag. If you are trying to restrain your dog, it can easily slip out of a collar. Also, attaching a leash to a collar puts pressure on the neck, which is one of the most sensitive areas of the body, & could hurt them. For these reasons, Safe Haven includes a harness with every dog adoption to ensure the safety of the dog. A harness distributes the weight on the chest & shoulders. It also has a handle on the back that you can grab if need be, without hurting your pet (EX: Dog falls off your boat, just grab the handle & pull your pet back in with no harm done. With a collar, you would have to strangle your dog when pulling your dog in). Also, it is very hard for a dog to slip out of a harness when properly fitted. So it is much easier to restrain them. FAQ: Q: Is this pet still available? A: Status of each pet is posted in the original post on the Facebook page for Safe Haven Animal Rescue of AZ at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1405138936478168/ . It will say the status in the Topic Tag just below the pictures. Updates are posted in the comment section of each pets post. Once on the Facebook page, you can also type the pets name in the search box in the upper right corner (look for the magnifying glass and click on it) to easily pull up all the posts on that pet. Q: Why are your adoption fees so low? A: Safe Haven does things very differently than other rescues do. If you look at our other pets up for adoption, and also our past adoptions, you'll see that ALL our prices are low. We do this because it generates a lot of interest, and gets the pets adopted quickly. The more that get adopted, the more we can rescue. We only deal with pets in danger of being euthanized. The whole point is to save as many lives as possible! We are all about the animals here. And if you want to add a donation to the adoption price to show appreciation for all the hard work we do, then please indicate that in your application! Q: I don't see a phone #. Will someone please call me? A: Everything needed is online. I have found that online is the most efficient way to get all the work done. In the past, when I posted my #, my phone rang off the hook all day. So I spent the whole day on the phone, with not much work to show for it at the end of the day. Again, everything needed is online. Q: How do I adopt this pet? A: Your first step is to fill out an application. Our last site that we used for applications shut down, so while we set up a new one, please e-mail Safe_Haven_Animal_Rescue@live.com and ask for a an application. Q: Where is this pet? A: This pet is being fostered in a private home. Q: I like what you are doing & would like to help. Would you be open to a partnership? A: Absolutely! I am open to anything that helps care for the animals &/or saves more lives! Please e-mail me at Safe_Haven_Animal_Rescue@live.com and give me details about what you have in mind. Q: Can I sponsor a specific pet? A: I have switched our protocol from sponsering a specic pet, to just Sponsoring our Rescue. The funds will then be used where they are needed the most. You can send any amount & stop Sponsoring anytime you choose. Sponsors recieve extra perks such as inside information and whatever other persks I can think of to thank you for helping. Taking care of each pet gets expensive, and we are so grateful for any monthly donation towards the Vet care, food, treats, toys, gas for running them to the dog park ect... To become a Sponsor, please click on this link https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=6DRAYJN5XEDZ2 You can pay with your PayPal account, or you can pay with a credit card. Q: How can I donate? A: First, THANK YOU! We rely on private donations to help fund all the costs for these wonderful animals. So your help means a lot!
