NEW DOG ALERT Personality I would like to introduce myself to all my potentially forever homes. My name is Flynn. I am about 18 months old. I am a male Husky mix and weigh approximately 53 lbs. I made my journey down south on November 1, 2020 and what a busy week I have had. Foster mom took me to meet the nice vet lady on Tuesday. I was vaccinated and got my very own microchip. I stayed calm and the nice vet lady tossed me a couple of treats that I caught. She said I was a very good boy. The very next day I went to see the nice vet lady again. I thought oh boy, more nice treats for me. All I will say on that matter is I went home neutered and had my bilateral hind dew claws removed as they were very loose and the nice vet lady didn’t want me to catch them on anything. Foster mom did give me a nice treat later that evening for behaving so well. I have been exposed to something called a crate at foster mom’s house. What the heck is this contraption I thought. I am currently not a fan of my crate but will go in with some encouragement from foster mom as she leads me in with my leash. Foster mom does not cover my crate which works best for me. Foster mom had some toys for me but I only play a little bit. Maybe in time I will play more. I did destroy a blanket twice that was in my crate. Since then nothing goes into my crate. I do lie on the dog beds at my foster home nicely. (its just my crate I need to get more use to) I eat my meals in my crate and foster mom is working with me to learn that that my crate is my safe place. I will whine in my crate but with a few stern that’s enough from foster mom, I will usually settle after a few minutes because if I persist I just get ignored. I go out for my last pee around 10:00pm then it’s off to bed. Once I’m settled in my crate I do sleep all night until foster mom gets me up around 7:00am. I do live with a foster sister canine who is 6 years old. I am very friendly towards her and wag my tail when she comes near me. She does not seem too interested in me, but as each day goes she warms up a little more. I am hoping soon she will want to play with me. We go on walks together and walk very nicely with each other. I live with a cat but because she is very old she just stays downstairs in the family room near the fire place. I saw her once when foster dad forgot to shut the door. I became excited and tried to run downstairs but foster mom had hold of my leash. Since then I am very aware that she is down there. By the way I behaved then and now when I am near the stairs foster mom thinks a cat free home would be best for me. My leash skills are good for a boy who’s just arrived. I trot along at foster mom’s side and should I become distracted (pesky squirrels) I can easily be redirected with a quick turn in direction or stopping. At first, I barked a little bit when I saw a dog at the park we walk in, but foster mom said a firm no and I stopped. On my last few walks I didn’t even bark if I saw another dog. Foster mom is so proud of me. I am house trained and have not had any accidents since I arrived. Foster mom takes me out on a regular basis to do my business and I have two good walks per day. I’m also really good walking in the dark. I have been on several car rides with my foster parents. I’m very good in the car and can get in and out all by myself. Foster mom ties my leash to the door so I cannot jump out of the car when we stop until foster mom is holding my leash. I do not live with any children in my foster home so I don’t know how I would react around them. With my foster mom and dad, I am a very chill boy and happy just to be in the same room as them. Foster mom keeps my leash on at all times in the house except for when I am in my crate. My leash should never stay on in my crate. This is to learn the house rules and keep me safe. It is recommended that when I go to my forever home that for the first 30 days my leash be kept on inside and outside (even in a fenced yard) so I learn your house rules and boundaries. To start, I should not be given free range of the house, but restricted to certain areas where you can supervise me. It is very important to limit attention to me when I am first adopted and I should be crated at times during the day even if you are home. This is so I do not develop separation anxiety when you are not home, and I can be my best self. I am a shy boy and it takes me a bit of time to warm up to new situations. I was unsure when I first arrived at foster moms house and it took a couple of days before I became more at ease. I have only been here a very short time so I have not met other people besides my foster mom and dad. I heard foster mom say we are going to a bbq on the weekend where I will get to meet new people. Foster mom thinks I will do fine. I am looking for a family who would be willing to do good training with me. This would help to build my confidence and help us bond. Foster moms says I’m a very calm, happy and good boy. If you feel I’m the boy for you go to the Finding Them Homes website at: www.findingthemhomes.com and fill out an application. I’m ready and waiting to go to my Forever home.
