My story

Hi! I’m Jasper, and yes I know, I don't look like a husky, and well, that's because I am not silly . However, I have a long story to tell you. Sit back cause it sounds like a Hallmark movie and I just need my happy ending. Back in the beginning of March 2020, my family took me to the vet to remove a large mass from my elbow. The mass was not tested and they tried to do a skin graft which did not work. The wound became so difficult to heal because of the location of the wound, which was my elbow, and it ended up getting a very nasty bacteria. There was also some recurring irritation to the skin at the top of the leg near my belly and that was from the bandages. I was a mess. Because the healing was taking so long, close to two months, my owners requested the vet to put me to sleep. Everyone at the vet felt so bad for me because I was only a year old and they felt they needed to help me. Since the vet loves what Husky Haven of Florida does for huskies, they contacted them and asked them to please give me a chance to live. They didn't hesitate and decided to help. I spent the next two months at the vet due to daily bandage changes. My skin was very very very slowly healing but unfortunately not fast enough, however, definitely going in the right direction. After 4 months hospitalized at the vet, they decided to move me to a foster to continue my bandage changes and healing. My foster was amazing and I was having a blast, but I am a puppy after all and I ate part of a small towel when no one was looking. This sent me back to the vet and I barely survived that ordeal. I was becoming septic and I had to go through 2 emergency surgeries, but since I am strong otherwise, I overcame it and well here I am. I was hospitalized for close to another month and then went to my foster mommy. Fast forward to November, I am currently still healing from this wound, slowly but surely. I am having laser treatments which are helping. It's not of matter of if I will heal, it’s a matter of time. This has not been easily financially for the rescue by any means, but I am grateful they have not given up on me. So here I am now with a great foster mommy but I’m ready to find my forever home. The rescue will continue to financially take care of the therapies needed for my wound to be healed but I can start the search for my forever family. Please take into consideration that I am only a year old and in my short life I’ve been through multiple surgeries, spent around 4-5 months hospitalized with restrictions, and a lot of time between foster homes. I am finally ready to settle into a permanent loving home that will share all of the snuggles with me. I am a goofy lab mix that will no doubt steal your heart with my sweetness. I do have a lot of energy and would love to find a home that will allow me to release that energy playing plenty of fetch, going for many walks, and even car rides! All things I absolutely love. Because I am still healing, I would love a home where I could be an only dog or with another mellow dog, so that I won't go a bit crazy trying to play. I truly am a gem, and everyone that meets me loves me, I am everything what a fun, loving, sweet, energetic, goofy dog is, and I will reach my potential once this wound is completely healed, but for now, I am hopeful my future family has a little patience while I get there. I am crate trained, house broken, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. Adoption fee is $325 Apply at www.HuskyhavenFl.org

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Jasper, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
