My story

Whetherly's Facebook Album Whisper and Whetherly are 6-month-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix puppies that came into our program on February 1st. They were found on an abandoned property in southern Illinois. They were both in rough shape -- covered in their own urine, malnourished, flaky dry skin and with some joint pain. Whisper had weak front wrist joints that gave her a flat-footed look and Whetherly had a serious limp with her back right hind leg. Because we see so much tick-borne disease in our incoming dogs and puppies, both girls started on doxycycline and amoxicillin in the hopes that if they were infected, the meds would start helping their sore joints. In foster care both girls got much needed shampoos and got some good dewormer and a lot of TLC. Both also started work on cage and house training which is going well. The antibiotics started to work as we had hoped and both girls got stronger every day. We did confirm Rocky Mountain spotted fever infections but are hopeful if they are treated long term- we can get that under control and maybe even cure them of it. We did do xrays on Whetherly just to be safe and her hips are just fine. Whisper and Whetherly are confident little girls that are great with kids, other dogs, and cats. They need to stay in the Chicago area for their future spays and we want homes with playful dog buddies and maybe some kids too. They need safe fenced in yards too.
