My story

Ania aka Salsa celebrated her fourth birthday on March 8, 2021. The best present she could receive would be to find her perfect forever home. She might argue that she would rather have cake, at least in the short term. She does have a sweet tooth. She is a beautiful chocolate lab with AKC papers. She has been in foster care twice with DLRR, through no fault of her own. Her first return was due to the family not willing to make a commitment to her training. Her second owners were elderly and found her size and energy level too much to handle. She is a counter surfer of the first order and can open any closed door in the house. She is 88 lbs. of joy and boundless energy and while she has been on a lower calorie dog food plan she has supplemented her diet with 5 English muffins snatched from the kitchen counter one evening and a stash of Girl Scout cookies. She is 100% potty trained and loves going in and out the doggie door. She is inquisitive and is very intelligent. Ania aka Salsa loves to cuddle. There is nothing sweeter than to end the day with her head resting in your lap and a deep sigh of contentment as she falls asleep. She has the sweetest disposition and greets each morning practically dancing out to the kitchen for breakfast. She will be a fantastic companion once she learns a few manners. She has suffered from a condition called happy tail, a result of beating her tail so hard against her kennel that she injured the tail and had an open sore at one point. Ania aka Salsa has enjoyed discovering the pool and has taken a few steps into the cold water (59 degrees). She loves the water and has been quite “helpful” assisting with washing down the patio and solar blankets for the pool. Everyone “enjoyed” a good soaking! Due to her size and lack of training it is not recommended that she go to a home with small children. She needs a strong, experienced Lab rescue family to help her reach her full potential, one who will take the time and expend the energy to help her become her best self. She is a quick learner and very anxious to please. She does suffer from separation anxiety and would do best in a multiple dog household. She does not tolerate being in a closed kennel but has not been destructive while having the full run of the house. She has been left for up to 3 hours at a time. If you are interested in this dog, please fill out an application at www.dlrraz.org. Someone will call to schedule a home visit so you can become an approved adopter. Also, visit our Facebook page at www.facebook/desertlab and follow us on Instagram (DLRR of Arizona) and Twitter (@DLRR). Thanks!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ania aka Salsa, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
