Sissy

My story

Meet Sissy, a 3 year old, 16 pound, Black and Tan girl who is looking for her forever home. Sissy is a cuddly girl who loves to get hugs and cuddles and loves to give them back. She loves to play fetch, but doesn’t always bring it back the ball or toy. A smart girl, Sissy will entertain herself by bringing her ball on the couch and rolling it back off the couch to chase. Sissy is a great watch dog and protective of her home. If a car or delivery truck comes down the driveway, or person comes to the door, she will bark. She will also alert you to snakes or other intruders in her yard. So, if she is barking, she has a reason. Sissy gets along well with other dogs and is neither an alpha or a passive girl She gets along well with children over the age of 5 years. Sissy has not been cat tested. Sissy sleeps in her crate buried under blankets or in a dog bed cuddled under the covers. After lots of playing Sissy will go have a nap with her foster brothers and sisters or by herself in her foster home in Alabama. Sissy is housetrained and crate trained provided she is given regular opportunities to go outside. She does best with a regular schedule of potty breaks. Like all dachshunds she will need to be confident in her environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Sissy has been diagnosed by our vet with hyper-extended limbs. All four of Sissy’s paws move as if she has on swim flippers to some degree. If she is on concrete too much she can get abrasions from scraping the top of her feet near the nails. Dog shoes would be recommended for taking walks. Sissy has no problems with walking or running and she is great on grass or in the home. Sissy needs a home where she can be ramp trained to aid her mobility and to avoid using stairs.
