AUGUST ADOPTION SPECIAL: Every dog, puppy, cat and kitten adopted in August goes home with a new toy, plus cans of wet food for enrichment games. Hi ya! Queen of the play bows here. My name is Luna Freya and I love you. Let's play. My favorite things in life include rolling in the grass, playing with the humans in my foster home, snuggling, snacks and sniffy walks. Did I mention snacks? I am a beautiful, young adult, female mutt who is friendly and sweet. I hope to find someone who will love me and spend time with me. Execerise would be great cause I could stand to lose a couple pounds, even though I don't at all mind a day of lounging, cuddles, a walk in the fresh air and more time with my humans. Saturday, September 10, 2022: Rochester Hills adoption event on the second Saturday of every month from noon to 3 p.m. at Petco, 2675 S Rochester Rd, Rochester Hills, MI 48307. Not all animals will be at every event. Saturday, October 1, 2022: Adoption event, pet training demos and nature walks from noon - 4 p.m. at Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve, 333 N Hill Cir, Rochester Hills, MI 48307. Meet some of our adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens, take a hike in the woods with them, shop the pop-up shop where all proceeds go directly to PFL animals in need, and learn all about the benefits of positive reinforcement by playing the training game. So, for most of our adoptable dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Why is labeling a dog such a big deal? A label will stick with a dog for the rest of its life. A label can mean discrimination, losing its home or even death. Labels are a problem for the dogs when we, as the local experts on animals, allow adopters, politicians and community members to think that the label we assign can predict who that dog is or will be. Examples: Identify these mixed breed dogs (pdf) Now, compare these canine DNA results with the survey responses to see that dog breeds cannot be visually identified, not even by the experts. Adoption Process: Complete the application at www.pawsforliferescue.org. We then arrange a location, date and time for you to meet some pets. If the meeting goes well and everyone is happy, you begin the mandatory, minimum two-week adjustment period with the pet as part of your family. You will pay the non-refundable adoption fee at the start of the two-week adjustment period. This pending period allows your new dog or cat time to adjust to their new home, new people, new routine, etc., and for you to decide if it's a match and the right pet for you. At the end of two weeks (some people extend the adjustment time as needed and that's fine too), if everyone is happy, then we finalize the adoption. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
