My story

Crouton Breed: Satan’s sidekick (Chihuahua) Gender: Angry female Weight: Tiny terror (8lbs) Age: 1 to 2 years Spayed: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Heartworm: Negative Foster Location: Elburn, IL. No out of state applicants, please. Don’t complain about it. Thank us for doing you a solid. Potty trained: Yes (mostly potty pads) Crate trained: Holy hell. No. Not unless you want to listen to insane shrieking that is so loud, if a neighbor were to hear it, it’s possible they’d call the police. Maybe warn your neighbors that you adopted a new dog and you don’t have a dog dungeon of torture in your living room. We do home checks to eliminate any possible adopters with dog dungeons. You can definitely keep her contained, on account of her being a miniature version of devil spawn but it won’t be enjoyable for anyone. Mostly...you. And your neighbors. Dog Friendly: Yes! And no! She does better with males than females. She has a love/want to kill, relationship with the small female in the home. But if she’s cuddling with one of her people or a dog tries to play with a toy she wants, she goes “Cujo” on them. It’s less scary than Cujo and far more funny but she’s dead serious. And that makes it even funnier. Cat Friendly: If your version of cat friendly means she terrorizes cats...SURE...she’s cat friendly. She lives with cats currently and they’re still alive, so...that’s something! Kid Friendly: Yup!!! The first day in her foster home, she wasn’t particularly interested in warming up to the adults. That’s not very surprising and we always anticipate that. Fast forward a few hours, when the small humans got home from school. Crouton was immediately drawn to the smallest of all the humans. She lit up like a xmas tree and hopped right in her lap like they were old friends. Crouton follows her small human everywhere. That small human is the “Dorothy” to Crouton’s “Toto”. Dorothy and Toto are quite the iconic human/dog duo, but let’s not forget that Dorothy ended up in that whole mess because her terrible dog, Toto, bit a neighbor and Dorothy needed to run away with him. That could easily be Crouton with her small human. Crouton absolutely loves her people and would gladly be a purse dog that got to go everywhere with her people. She might surprise you by pooping in your purse though! Don’t start out with an expensive purse. Now that you’ve read all the amazing attributes Crouton has, we’ll provide a few of her challenges. You didn’t think we’d be offering a completely perfect dog, did you? 🤣🤣🤣 Crouton is serious about her toys and food. She is loud and she will chase humans and animals away from whatever she’s deemed hers. And Crouton isn’t trying to go on walks, because she’s not interested in putting a collar on. Girl is a freak about her neck so if you can get a collar on, just leave it there. Forever. None of these behaviors are ideal, but it’s really hard not to laugh when something so tiny, is so serious about something. And this is why little dogs get away with murder! Crouton is your typical, terrible Chihuahua and her foster family LOVES her for it. There is a reason certain people are Chihuahua people. The reason is...there’s something wrong with those people. There. I said it. Crouton is hard not to love though. She’s funny, sassy, sweet, cute, loyal, and manages to have a very large presence, for something so small, it barely exists. She’s looking for adopters who know and love Chihuahuas, because they’ll also understand, she will likely not take to strangers immediately. But give her 5 minutes. If she needs a lap to sit on, and her options are limited, she warms up quite quickly. She clearly understands relationships of convenience and she’s not too good for them. She’s pretty down to to earth, for a dog that emerged from the depths of hell. If you’re interested in having a tiny dictator rule your life, please fill out an application at animalheartline.org and a volunteer will contact you. If we feel you’re not a match and we deny your app...you’re welcome.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Crouton, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
