Kiara would like to share her story with you! ❤ Sometimes you draw the short end of the stick. The worst part about it is there is nothing you can do about it. I guess in a situation like that, it is important to keep a positive attitude. To keep pushing forward. At only 12 weeks of age, I went through open-heart surgery for PRAA. It was 100% successful, but I still need a few things to keep me healthy. I must be fed at head height to prevent too much strain on my esophagus, and my food must be paced out slightly to prevent me from gulping it down. If all of this is managed, I won’t experience regurgitation on a regular basis. The doctor says that after 6-8 months of this, I should be able to eat normally again. I went through a surgery that no pup should ever have to go through. But I came out stronger because of it. I am sure right about now you are wondering how I ended up in rescue. Well, I am a puppy and I love to play. The problem is that my former family had a 3-month-old baby and they were concerned about my mouthiness when I get very excited. They had to admit that I was just a little too much "dog" for them. They still wanted to make sure that I ended up somewhere safe and surrendered me to this rescue. My name is Kiara. I am about 8 months old and a Great Pyrenees mix. I weigh around 50lbs right now and am definitely on the skinny side. I should be closer to 60lbs right now but my fosters are working on putting weight on me. I have had quite the journey to get to this point, and I am very much ready to find my forever family! ____________________________________________________________________ Before you jump into adopting me, be sure to read everything about me. Don't adopt me because I am pretty, adopt me because you know without a doubt that my personality would fit wonderfully within your family 😉 -How can someone adopt me? The first step is to fill out an adoption app for me at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app Once this app comes in, it will get sent on to my foster family and they will help me decide if we are a match or not. -Where are you being fostered? Would I need to pick you up? Can I adopt you even if I don't live in Oklahoma? I am being fostered in Broken Arrow, OK. Yes, you would need to pick me up. This rescue does not send us on transports. It is less stress on us that way. Plus, you and I can already start bonding on the road trip home! 😉Yes, I am okay moving to a new state. -Do I do well with strangers? When I am out in public, I am calm and friendly when meeting people. At home, I feed off the excitement of my foster siblings and am excited! -Do you jump on people? Yes, but my fosters are working with me on this. -Do you enjoy going places? I have been to PetSmart and Starbucks and did great in both instances! -What is your energy level like? Active and Playful! -Do you enjoy walks? Yes. I am also leash trained. -Do you like road trips? I do amazing in the car! -Can I trust you to free-roam the house, even if I am away? I am definitely a puppy and will need some guidance on house rules before I would be great at it. I am a counter surfer and will play with water bottles if left out. -Are you potty trained? What about kennel trained? Yes, I am potty trained and will ring a bell when I have to go out. I am also kennel trained. -What do you like to do for fun? I try my best when playing fetch. However, I haven't quite grasped the "bringing it back" part yet. I have not shown any interest in playing in the water yet. I am a BIG fan of toys! I love them all! -Would you do okay living in an apartment? I would be fine, but I really would prefer to have a fenced-in yard that I can play and explore in. -Do you bark a lot? I do bark when alarmed, even if you don't think it is something to be alarmed by. -Are you good with other dogs, cats, and kids? I am good with other dogs and like to play with them. I do great with cats. I have only been around kids in Petsmart but did well with them there. -Is there anything else that I need to know about you? Any quirks? I have not shown to have any issues with food aggression. I will occasionally try to resource guard things at random times, but for the most part, I don't seem to have a big issue with it. -Can I hear what your foster has to say about you? "The first thing that grabbed our attention was Kiara’s beautiful markings on her face, but her personality is super fun! She knows lots of tricks: sit, down, place, and touch, and she loves to show off for some treats; however, she is still very much a puppy and will still need guidance as she grows out of all the energy she naturally has. When we first brought Kiara into our home, she didn’t cuddle at all. She is learning from our pack though and is beginning to lay in our laps and get closer to us in a lovey kind of way. Kiara went through open-heart surgery when she was a baby for PRAA. It was successful, but she does require a mix of dry and wet food during her mealtimes and an elevated food bowl so she doesn’t regurgitate. We have only experienced this a couple of times when we tried only dry food. Other than that, she’s your typical 8-month-old Great Pyrenees puppy: full of spunk, fun, and love to give." ____________________________________________________________________ Phew! That took longer than I thought! Hopefully, all your questions about me were answered though! Before you apply to adopt me I have a few last things that I would like to discuss! ~ My ideal family would be a patient home that is willing to go the extra mile to give me care and love, to be active with me, and help deplete my puppy energy healthily. Other animals would be just fine, as I love to play. But I don't really mind being alone either. Older kids would probably be best, as I can play a little rough. ~ *My adoption fee is $225. That includes DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordatella shots. I will be micro-chipped, heart-worm tested, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heart-worm and flea/tick prevention.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Kiara, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
