My story

DOB Nov. 25, 2013 This super sweet and vocal boy started off a whole other way. He arrived so angry and scary that his foster parent didn’t get to know him because he was very good at telling you to keep a distance with big body language and lots of hissing. After 3 months of hiding, he emerged and with some patience he slowly revealed himself to them, tiny miracle after tiny miracle. Considering how things began, his foster was worried this would be an aggressive cat but Damon is very gentle, calm and never one to bite or swat. He is very loving and sweet, loves to purr, poke you with a paw and loves to chat. However, Damon does not like being picked up. He will squirm very frantically, thus making it very difficult to get him into a carrier without a little sedative. He is so concerned about not getting picked up that he will be wary of being pet with two hands simultaneously. His tiny voice comes as a surprise and is really funny, sometimes his meows come out sounding like a ‘Yahoo!’ and sometimes barely there but definitely answering you every time. He loves rubbing his bottom lip on your hand, or coming in butt first for a scratch. Often times his bottom lip will get stuck and he will look at you with a lopsided underbite. Damon is calm, he isn't one to climb up on top of cabinets or knock things off of ledges - but he does love hunting a moth or fly. He is not a lap cat (unless it's bedtime) but loves being nearby, often reaching out a paw to make sure you're paying attention. Rest assured he will be softly poking you in the face when it's time for breakfast. Damon lived with 2 other cats in the past, but has not experienced other animals whilst in foster care. He has also always hidden when his foster parent had someone else in the apartment. He responds to his own name really well, as well as "good boy". Damon is currently being given allergy medication every other day - Atopica. He is on a vet provided diet - and appears to have to remain on one - as he can get severe skin reactions from certain foods. It will be necessary to work alongside a vet to ensure his diet works for him to avoid any further skin reactions. Damon has peed on the couch in the past, but otherwise does not have an issue using the litter box. It is unclear if this was territorial behaviour. Note from Damon's foster family: At first I would not have suggested he be near inexperienced children, but now as he has become his true self again, I see no issue having children around. He does not swat or bite, not even when playing. Win his heart by brushing him, putting on a bird video, leaving out a cardboard box, talking to him out loud and dangling some string for him to chase. I really hope he finds a home who is able to help him manage his allergies and appreciate how sweet, calm and funny he is. It has truly been an amazing transformation, see his progress on his highlight reel on my instagram @vivalaflav. Thank you for welcoming a senior cat into your family - an adoption fee of your choice is appreciated, vs. our standard adult cat adoption fee of $200.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Damon, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
