Rosie - Female yellow Lab mix 10-months-old 55-lb Not yet spayed Background: Rosie, then six-months-old, was adopted to a family with small children and an older Springer Spaniel named “Jolly Mon” in October 2021. As Rosie has grown she has become very rambunctious and mouthy -- nipping and biting the kids… and pestering Jolly Mon more than he appreciates. The adopters did a DNA test on Rosie which revealed 50% German shepherd, 25% Labrador retriever, and 25% pit bull terrier. They worked with a trainer and many things improved with Rosie, but some things did not. They are not a good fit for Rosie now and have asked us to find her new forever home. We need to find Rosie a new forever home. What Rosie's Former Adopter has to say: Rosie has made herself at home, she enjoys being outdoors and just sitting and watching life go by. She is ball-obsessed, and toy-obsessed; if she can play ball all day every day she would. Rosie LOVES the water and playing in the water, warmer days I have huge buckets of water out for her to splash in. She loves long walks and easy hikes. Rosie does well in dog parks after the initial anxiety has passed and loves running around with other pups. She is very friendly with all humans and wants all the attention she can get, if you pay attention to her and hopefully play she is happy. She is very curious about other dogs, but initially gets scared and reactive with them- especially while on a leash. Rosie loves being part of everything, she will follow you around and will make sure she is with you at all times. She loves riding in a car, especially on the front seat, and occasionally enjoys popping her head out of the window for some sweet wind in your face moment. Careful not to lower the window too much for her to get out, she is reactive in the car when passing other dogs or people she doesn't seem to like. We have a home in Sonoma as well and have a big lot of land, she is so happy there. She is skipping around sniffing all the smells, digging and chasing critters. She would thrive in a home with lots of land to roam around. Rosie is so smart, she picks up new things and commands very quickly. At night she loves sleeping on one of her beds or on the couch or curl up next to you or even snuggle with you. But this usually happens when the house is quiet -- with kids in bed already or we are all watching a movie together and she can relax. Rosie has been working with us and a trainer since week one, we have had once and twice a week meetings with the trainer. Rosie knows some of the commands and knows how to go to her mat and relax/stay there. Rosie is now fully potty trained; she came to us not fully potty trained. She is good at grabbing her toy instead of nipping, but seems selective with people who she does it with. But we praise her a lot when she does make a good choice and doesn't nip. Pretty good recall- she doesn't listen 100% of the time and sometimes ignores you calling her or comes under protest, but that is very age appropriate. Rosie does not like her paws being touched; I have been trying to get her used to it. She is also not a fan of her ears being touched. She really is a good dog and wants to do all the best things but just gets too overwhelmed by her surroundings and noise. She seems to be a bit noise sensitive as well, and things still startle her a lot which makes me believe she is constantly on high alert. I think she would absolutely blossom in a calmer household where she can learn new tricks and tasks and be part of the household. She is so eager to please and really, REALLY smart. Maybe even too smart. Rosie tends to jump on visitors and has some extreme mouthiness at times. She jumps and nips when trying to get attention. She needs work walking on leash as she tends to pull still and likes to be the pack leader on walks. She does ok when corrected but it does not come naturally. Requires a lot of positive reinforcement and treats. Reactive with other dogs passing -- 9 out of 10 times it's a struggle. But occasionally she will calmly pass and get rewarded for it. Rosie gets frustrated with cyclists and even cars occasionally and growls and jumps towards a cyclist or a passing car. When she gets into her high energy mode it's hard to bring her attention back and she doesn't listen as well -- too much impulse activity happening for her to be able to process commands. What Rosie's Rescue Rep has to say: Rosie is definitely in that “teenage rebel” stage in her life. Rosie would do best in a home without children, a home with lots of land to run and exercise, and a home with a larger adult dog that will show Rosie the ropes. Rosie’s adopters will need to continue the work with her per the past trainer’s recommendations which we are happy to share with prospective adopters. Medical: Rosie is healthy, fully vaccinated, microchipped but not yet spayed. Rosie is located in: Tiburon. If you are interested in adopting Rosie, please contact Rescue Rep Dave at david.c.ely@sbcglobal.net Please note our service area: GGLRR adopts to the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Rosie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
