My story

Well, meet Ziggy! Ziggy is adorable as ever with his white hair, pink nose, and one blue eye! Ziggy is around 2 years old, and 60 lbs. We believe he is a Bully breed mix. Ziggy was adopted from us in early 2021 (just over 1 year ago) and due to a personal change in his people's lives, they are no longer able to care for Ziggy. The following description of Ziggy's personality and routine was written by his previous home: "-I am very sad to be needing to find a new home for Ziggy, because he is a very smart, sweet, and loving dog. He is a healthy, handsome boy. All Ziggy really wants in the world is someone to snuggle up with. Unfortunately, because of a change in my life a few months ago, Ziggy now has to be left home alone most of the day, every day. And that is not fair to him. -Because of the change, and him being left alone for long hours daily, he is showing signs of stress and anxiety. I can't blame him, who wants to be sitting bored at home and alone that much? He will be much happier with a person or family where he can be with someone more of the time. -Ziggy is potty-trained to go outside and usually does fine. When he is home alone for long hours, he does have potty accidents or chew things up when left alone. He would do best with someone who works from home, so he is not left home alone so often so this does not happen. He is not crate trained, (at least I have never crated him) but with some patience and care, could be taught as he learns quickly. -Ziggy gets along very well with people and with other dogs most of the time. Sometimes he can get a little over stimulated with other dogs, but mostly he does great. He lived very happily with another dog in the home for the last year (that dog ended up moving away recently). We have had lots of kids come running up to him on our walks and start petting him right away. He has never shown any signs of aggression toward people. -In the past, he had some scuffles at the dog park, but recently I have been able to have very successful play dates with other dogs in small groups of one or two. Big dog group situations can be overwhelming and overstimulating. If you wanted to take him to a dog park, I would just recommend slowly building up to the busy times by starting at a small one or going early in the morning/later in the day when there are less dogs. -Until he understands the rules and gets familiar with a situation, Ziggy should be supervised around smaller children or frail adults. He's super social, the only reason I say this is because he is a 60 lb dog who likes to "give hugs" (jump up on) people when meeting them. He also has a somewhat mouthy playstyle when playing with people. He does listen when told to stop. He is such a loving, sweet boy with all people. -He eats twice a day, one cup of dog food each meal. I usually feed him at 7am and 7pm. I have him sleeping on the floor on his dog bed, but he would happily sleep on the bed with you if allowed. -Ziggy is up to date on his shots and neutered. (Since he is albino, it is good to put a doggy sunscreen on his nose in the summer.) -Ziggy will be a wonderful companion and a loving friend for the right person or family that can give him the time, attention, and guidance that he needs. " ***While Ziggy is a potty trained dog, we just want to make sure that everyone knows that accidents in the beginning are normal even for potty trained dogs, as they need to learn the routine of your home.*** Group training classes with a positive reinforcement trainer would truly serve both Ziggy and his new family (as it does every dog and their people). It also creates strong bonds of respect between pup and family. It is for these reasons that Farfel's is unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't choose to give him this training opportunity. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog.
