Bear von Bautzen is a gorgeous 6-7 year-old long-haired German Shepherd. Bear has such a luxurious coat and he can be such a sweet boy. Just call out to him and he runs up to you with a wagging tail and leans on you for petting. Bear's prior owner described him as smart, loyal, protective, good in the car and in the yard. He is looking for a home without kids, as he can have a little sensitivity to some touch. At the rescue, Bear definitely enjoys his walks and is well-mannered on leash. Although he is a heavyset boy, he enjoys long walks - even a small jog, meeting dogs well. He knows “Sit” and is very treat-motivated (give treats with an open palm). Bear is a good greeter and super-friendly with female dogs in playgroups, but has little tolerance for pushy/dominant males, and he's a no for cats. This awesome boy might be the gem you’ve been waiting for! IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN Bear von Bautzen YOU MUST FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: www.sheprescue.org Application link: http://www.sheprescue.org/Application_to_Adopt_a_Dog%20Main.html Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bear von Bautzen, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
