My story

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. Please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption. Beatrice is an 8 week old small terrier Dachshund X. Mommy looks like either a Rat Terrier or a Jack Russell Terrier. Mommy (pictured) was surrendered to PUP when the owner discovered she was pregnant and they knew they could not handle the finances of caring for her and a litter of pups. They were born at a PUP foster home and have never had a bad day, except maybe the day mommy Piper let them know she was no longer going to let them nurse. They are well socialized to people and other dogs, having lived with their siblings and other young dogs all their life. Mommy weighs about 16# and we suspect the pups might be a wee bit bigger but are still small breed dogs. Very small dogs are notoriously difficult to house break and can NEVER be left outside unattended because of the risk posed by coyotes and birds of prey. Beatrice’s adopter must be committed to working on house breaking consistently and patiently. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Pups have been vet checked, wormed and had routine vaccinations. The $350 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of pup’s required spay/neuter at 6 months of age provided it is done by one of the PUP vets. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay/neuter must be in place. We do not ship.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Beatrice, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
