My story

Microchipped - DOB: May 20, 2022 My name's Betty and I'm a really special little girl! I hope I can be the right cat for you, but I want to be super honest, if you're looking for a cat who is super open and friendly, I am NOT your girl! I've been shy and scared since I was just a little baby and now that I'm a big girl I'm still a scaredy cat! I'm not a very social girl and don't like being approached or held... I will sometimes let you pet me if I'm cozy and sleepy but only around my chin and upper belly! Don't scratch my bum, please... Or I'll give you a little nip! Not hard... But it's not very fun for you or me! I know some cats love that, but not me. If I feel cornered, I will hiss to try and scare you away! Please don't take offence, I just need to take things slow. That being said... Once I feel safe in a smaller space (like a bathroom or an extra bedroom without much foot traffic) I'll occasionally come up to you in that little space, especially if you've been gone all day or I'm really hungry and want to be fed! I might rub myself against your legs or if you're very lucky I'll even jump into your lap for a quick little pet. However, that's about all you'll ever get from me. I prefer the company of other cats more than the company of people. I like my foster mom's resident cat a whole lot more than I like her, if we're being honest. I love to cuddle him and get groomed by him and am much more relaxed when he's around. I think it would make me feel much safer if I went to a home with another friendly cat! Just because I'm a scaredy cat doesn't mean I'm not a happy, playful girl! I love playing with all kinds of toys (those little springs you can get at Dollarama are my favourite!) and I love chasing them all around the house with all of my kitten energy! I love playing with my foster brother too, and will chase him until he plays with me so I'd want any cat brothers or sisters to be patient with me, because I can be a little annoying when I want their attention. I love sleeping on the cat post and sometimes, when I think you're asleep, I might even come up and sleep next to you in bed. But as soon as you move and make eye contact with me, I'll pretend I don't know who you are and run away. I'm quite food motivated and will always walk up to you if I know you're preparing my food, and if I'm feeling really outgoing you might even get a croaky little meow out of me telling you to hurry up and give me my kibble! I was found with my brother, who unfortunately passed away when we were 4 months old. I miss him a lot, I think that's why I like having another cat around so much! Special note from Betty's foster family: Betty is an adorable kitten, but she is definitely super shy and scared. The right family will have to have a lot of intuition and patience with her to make sure that she settles in well and has her safe spaces to run off to when she needs. I find she does well having a room that's all "hers" like a bathroom or smaller bedroom, with a cozy bed that she can cuddle into and feel safe in a smaller space. She would do well to go to a home with another cat because she really feels much safer with another friendly cat around that shows her that humans aren't all super scary! I have a feeling she's always going to be quite shy, as I've had her for over two months and she's still super scared, but hopefully with lots of love and affection she can learn to open up a little bit more in the future.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Betty, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
