My story

Hi! My name is Chelsea Dagger (yes, Blackhawk fans, THAT Chelsea Dagger!). Chicago Animal Control found me on the streets and when they found me, I was super thin (under 45lbs), limping, and in all-around pretty rough shape. I had obviously been bred before being abandoned. I now look healthy! My limp is gone, and I love to walk, jump and play. I even do stairs well. You would never know I have arthritis if it weren't for my daily doggie ibuprofen! The vet says I’m about 4 years old, and I am doing really well! I must have received some training along the way, because I haven’t had any accidents in the house. I am doing great with sitting, learning to stay when doors are open, and my leash walking has improved. In short, I will do just about anything for a treat. I still need to work a bit on jumping up, but I get so excited when I see my foster mom and dad that sometimes I forget. Oh, and I’m quite the wiggle-butt! Although my tail is short and stumpy it is almost always wagging. I don’t mind going in my crate to bed every night, or when my foster parents are away. Otherwise, I like to be out where I can explore and be close to whoever is in the room. I love being near my foster parents and I’m very inquisitive and affectionate. I’m learning all the different sounds of my foster house and my neighborhood. Some of them make me nervous, and sometimes I bark at night – but usually settle down pretty quickly. My foster parents tease me that I really want to be a lap dog. I’m only 50 pounds (soon to be more like 70!), so I don’t understand what the big deal is. Oh, and when my foster mom and dad are in Zoom meetings, they keep me busy with bones and licking mats – so I like it when they have meetings. I also like joining their meetings on occasion and am always the star of the show. People love my little snaggle tooth that pops out when I smile. My foster family has another female dog, and I’m not too sure about her yet. Every time I go outside, I look around to see if she is there, and wag my tail a lot when we walk together. I think I want to be friends, but I don’t know how. Maybe it is the time I spent on the street and the way I was treated by other dogs, but I always feel like I need to defend myself. I’m still working on it. I haven’t been around any children – so I’m not sure how I feel about them. I’m also not sure what cats are, or how I would feel about them. I am really smart and would love a family who would play with me, give me fun puzzles and activities to do, and most of all Cuddle! I am a full body hugger and snuggle bug. My foster parents seem to think that I would be best in a home without any other dogs so I can give all the loves and get all the loves. They tell me I am very sweet, and they think I would make a fantastic only dog.
