The Road Trip Litter (Tega, Wylie, and Maggie) arrived here on April 13, 2023. The Lancaster Animal Shelter called to say they had six kittens, all about three weeks old. Let’s call their birthday March 23. The “Road Trips” were brought to the Shelter by a family from Florence, SC, which is about an hour and a half drive away. The family was on the way to Charlotte, but when they stopped the car near Lancaster, they heard a noise underneath – it was a litter of kittens. The kittens were hungry, dehydrated, wind-blown, dirty, flea ridden, and all had eye and upper respiratory infections. The problem with upper respiratory infections in small kittens is they can’t breathe while they bottle feed. And much of their hunger response is triggered by smell. If they can’t smell the food and can’t breathe while they nurse from a bottle, then we have to syringe or tube feed them until the infection resolves. Most of the time, as a short term solution, that works. This time, we lost three of the kittens (Elgin, Archie, and Florence). But they were loved while we had them, and an honor to share their brief journey. The surviving three, Tega, Wylie, and Maggie, have recovered well. All three are strong, active, and playful. They should be completely weaned and old enough to leave for their forever homes mid to late May. But even at five weeks old, they are already litter trained! The adoption fee is $150 for one kitten and $225 for two. The fee covers FIV/FeLV testing, deworming, vaccinations, and spay/neuter with a partner vet. We strongly advise that if you do not already have a cat or cat-friendly dog, that you adopt two kittens. Two cats keep each other company when you are at work or away, and they also burn off a lot of energy you don’t have to deal with. To set up a visit, drop me a note at cherylsferalsandfosters@gmail.com or PM me. If you are considering adopting, please fill out and submit the adoption contract found in The Adoption Process link on my website (cherylsferalsandfosters.com). In the meantime, you can follow their journey on Facebook: Cheryl’s Ferals and Fosters Chat Group. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) rescue.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Wylie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
