My story

Don’t let Riley’s serious, sad-eyed face fool you. Her expressions are all in her soft, floppy ears! They are her best feature, and it is so fun to see them in action.Riley has been in foster care for several months while undergoing heartworm treatment. Now that she is finished, she is cleared to play and enjoy longer walks. Riley is a 5 to 6-year-old, 57 lb goofball who loves cuddling and being near her people. She even makes funny noises sometimes, mainly to let you know she wants to be closer.Key Details About Riley:Commands: She knows “sit” very well.Food: She is very food motivated and takes treats gently.Leash manners: She is gentle on leash, though she may react with a quick jerk if surprised by another dog. This can likely be corrected with light training.Dog compatibility: Riley has done well with a 14-year-old resident dog and is best buddies with another young foster dog. She would thrive with medium energy dogs.Riley does not like being in a cage or left alone in a room, which is understandable after spending over a year in and out of the shelter. The good news is she is non-destructive - just do not leave food unattended on the counter because she can be sneaky!Other Notes:People: Riley is human friendly and did well with my 6-year-old niece. She is untested with babies, small dogs, and cats.Prey drive: None. She ignores squirrels and birds.House training: Riley will go to the front door when she needs to go number two. She is mostly potty trained but may have accidents with major disruptions to her routine, such as medical treatments. Positive reinforcement is helping her improve.Bath time: She does well with showers (she is only familiar with showers, not tubs).Riley is a great roommate and will happily let you sleep in as long as you would like.https://www.youtube.com/embed/Nrg_aYcI-R8
