My story

Meet Marshall – a loyal soul with a big heart and even bigger potential. Marshall is a senior gentleman with a gentle spirit. Surrendered by his previous family due to not being the best match for a home with younger children, Marshall is now looking for a calm, understanding environment where he can truly shine. At this stage in his life, he’s not looking for chaos or high energy—he’s looking for connection, consistency, and someone who appreciates the quiet companionship of a mature dog. While in his previous home, Marshall showed some signs of food guarding behavior around both people and other dogs. This isn’t uncommon for dogs who feel uncertain or protective about their resources, and it’s something that can be managed with awareness, structure, and a gentle touch. Because of this, we think Marshall would do best as the only pet in the home or with a very savvy dog owner who can manage feeding time with care. He’ll also need a home without small children, as their unpredictable nature can be stressful for him. The good news? Marshall has so much going for him. He is fully house and potty trained and has clearly had some great training in his past. He knows several basic commands like sit, down, and spin, and is currently learning sit pretty—which he’s close to mastering and looks downright adorable doing. He loves engaging with his people in this way, and learning new tricks keeps his mind sharp and happy. Marshall walks quite well on a leash—he enjoys his strolls and is generally respectful, though like many dogs, he could use a bit more consistency and training to help him reach his full potential as a walking buddy. He’s responsive, enjoys positive reinforcement, and bonds closely with the people he trusts. At his age, Marshall isn’t asking for much—just a home where he can feel safe, a person who understands that dogs need time and space to adjust, and a comfy bed to curl up in at the end of the day. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will greet you with a wagging tail and loves practicing his tricks for a few treats, Marshall might be exactly who you’ve been looking for. He’s not perfect, but he’s perfectly himself—and in the right home, Marshall will be an incredibly rewarding and devoted companion.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Marshall, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
