My story

Some cats are born with a quiet strength — the kind that carries them through heartache and uncertainty with grace. Freyja is one of those rare souls. Named after the Norse goddess of love, beauty and strength, our Freyja has lived up to every part of her name. Her journey hasn’t been easy, but she’s never stopped loving we haven't stopped hoping. In July 2023, at just one year old herself, Freyja arrived at our shelter — left behind in a cardboard box, along with her tiny babies. Despite the fear and confusion she must have felt, she nurtured her kittens with unwavering love. That’s just who she is — gentle, patient, resilient. She was placed in one of our compassionate foster homes, where she could finally rest and heal. While there, she was treated for a urinary tract issue and began an affordable pain reliever to keep her comfortable — especially since stress can trigger a recurrence. Under care, her sweet nature began to bloom. In January 2024, Freyja was adopted. We cheered for her new beginning. But life doesn’t always go as planned and in May 2025, she was returned to us. It was noted during her intake that she had been declawed while away. Because of her sensitivity to stress, Freyja must be the only pet in her home. No dogs. No other cats. Just you and her — and believe us, she will fill your world with love. Freyja has a health waiver flag on her file due to being on a special diet and an inexpensive pain management medication. But don’t let that scare you away because our adoption consultant will walk you through everything, so you feel confident as her new companion. Freyja is not just another shelter cat. * She’s a cat who’s been let down and still chooses to love. * She’s a cat who’s been through loss and still hopes for connection. * She’s a cat who just needs one person to say, “I choose you.” Will you be the one to rewrite her story? Freyja is available for adoption via adoption consultant. Please email arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com to arrange a meet and greet. The shelter is open Tuesdays through Fridays 3:30-6:30pm AND Saturdays & Sundays 1pm-4pm. No appointments are needed during those times. If you are not available during those times, special arrangements for a meet and greet may be able to be arranged by emailing arfcats@bereaanimalrescue.com. Thank you for considering the adoption of a shelter animal in need!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Freyja, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
