A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by my friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $375.00 will be applied during the contract process. Hi my name is Sam! I'm originally from Kentucky but I'm loving my fresh start in Minnesota. I enjoy hanging out in the house and will snuggle up on my mat with my pillow and keep the humans company, but I also like to get fresh air outside and run around the yard or just lay in the sun. We also play this game where the humans scatter treats and I go "find" them. I love going out to the park when there aren't other dogs around and getting to sniff and run. It would be great to have a big yard with a privacy fence where I can really let loose and not have to worry about other dogs. Overall, I don't mind being in my kennel, but I'm super well behaved and never have accidents or chew on anything so I mostly get to free roam and just go in at "bed time" while the people sleep too. My foster person says I'm the best girl and so smart. LIKES: People, puzzles, clicker training, earning treats, laying in the sunshine, walks outside, tuna, peanut butter, belly rubs (on my terms) DISLIKES: Dogs and other animals, thunderstorms, fireworks A few words from my fosters: PERSONALITY Sam is an absolute gem! She is so sweet, a little sassy, and super smart. She loves people and is subtly affectionate, not a big snuggler/lap dog. She'll gently let you know when she's done with being pet. She tends to show herding breed behaviors like bumping to let you know she wants something and sometimes can be a little mouthy with her play, so she's looking for a forever home with older children and/or adults only. DOG REACTIVITY Through The Bond Between we completed a beginning reactive dog rehab course with Sam that taught us several strategies to help manage her anxiety -- which we'll look forward to sharing and showing her future family. One of the biggest takeaways was that it's not about "fixing" her reactivity, rather it's about providing her a safe space, avoiding uncomfortable situations, and knowing how to support her through challenges that come up. It's a commitment, but she is absolutely worth it and I know she is going to be the best companion for the right family! My Furever Family - One where she is the only fur member - Only older, considerate children (I am a herder after all!) - An adopter with dog experience and ideally one who enjoys training/puzzle activities - No apartments, i.e. no hallway/stairwell encounters (Preferably fenced in yard or working toward it) - Willing to continue working with her on dog reactivity (ongoing low-cost medication, transition training) The goal would be to keep her on her meds to ease transition and support continued training -- which would be a benefit of her adoption! She comes with 3 free one-on-one trainer sessions when adopted to set her and her forever family up for the best success! Training Support: The Bond Between will offer training sessions written into my adoption contract in order to ensure a smooth transition to my forever home!
