Sweet Cheeks, a volunteer and staff favorite, recently got a chance to go out on a 3-day “girl weekend” with one of our foster volunteers. She LOVED it — loved the adventure, loved the walks, loved meeting all the nice people, loved the permission to lie on her foster’s super comfy bed. And, Sweet Cheeks really impressed her host, too. Her foster writes, “She hardly pulled at all, which made walks really enjoyable. She did get very excited about squirrels, but I assume that’s pretty typical! She was also super friendly with people and dogs — curious but respectful. If I redirected her or said “no,” she’d listen and wasn’t overly fixated on engaging. She loves food — she would probably keep eating if given the chance! She also chewed up all of her toys, which your team at the shelter told me is common, especially in new environments. One funny thing: she barked at the vacuum and hairdryer, maybe out of playfulness or confusion. Tina used to hide from them, but Sweet Cheeks went the opposite direction and tried to “fight” them — it was kind of hilarious. She gets hot quickly, so she preferred shorter walks (about 20-30 minutes) during the day and then wanted to be back in the AC.” Her foster says Sweet Cheeks was liberal with her kisses and would sometimes get so excited she’d jump up and bop noses with her. We’ve been working on politely sitting and waiting for pets at the shelter. So, maybe that’s a work in progress. Sweet Cheeks foster says she was very curious about stairs, doors and entrances to buildings, intrigued by the idea of going in and out of new places. “Trees and greenery were fun for her too, but it was the doors and stairs that caught her attention the most,” her foster wrote. “I was honestly surprised she hasn’t been adopted yet. She’s a lovely, easygoing dog with a really sweet temperament.”
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sweet Cheeks (I have a Secret Crush!), please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
