My story

Hi, I’m Prince, though I also answer to Cute-Dooter, Little Monkey, and Handsome Boy, among other nicknames – maybe you’ll invent a new one for me! The people who rescued me say that I’m still pretty young, like less than 2 years old, and that I’m some sort of hound mix that might include Catahoula Leopard Dog, but my foster mom just says I’m 100% purebred awesome-dog, which sounds like a great breed to me! Although things started out tough for me, I am a happy guy and I love to learn all the things about living in a house, and the many things that make me a ‘good boy’, like paying attention when I’m on a leash. That’s hard for me sometimes because I am just so curious about everything around me, but I am learning fast and I like practicing a lot, and I am getting so much better. I heard somebody call me their shadow, because I like to follow my people around and watch what they are doing – I like being with people. You know what else I like a lot? BALLS, and going places where I can play fetch with you and a BALL (I think my foster mom calls them dog parks, and says I have good recall). I love playing fetch so much that you will probably know better than me when it is time to stop for a rest! If you don’t have a BALL, that’s okay, I can make you one from any other shape of toy – trust me, BALLS are the best! I get along well with my foster brother, who likes to play games with me – he’s a big dude, but I often win the game of bitey-face, and I am the champion of awkward body poses. If I am playing with a BALL though, I just ignore him and any other dog, because I have a lot of focus. Sometimes I’m so excited to be playing fetch that I ask random strangers to throw for me and my foster mom has to remind me who brought me here – I tell her I’m just looking for my forever family, because I know they will be people who are active and are looking for a guy like me that enjoys lots of play time and adventures. I would LOVE sports like flyball, deck diving, agility, search and rescue. Just about anything that allows me to use my nose and love of retrieving. Now, I think my rescue people have said I’m special, or have special needs, so I better tell you about that, too. Here goes: sometimes I can’t tell that I’m peeing. I’ve been to lots of doctors and nobody really knows why yet – but let me tell you, my foster mom and dad have a great routine that’s working really well for all of us. I wear these comfortable belly-bands that catch any leaks, so I can just enjoy being with my family without worrying I’ll mess up. They say it’s actually super easy to manage and barely adds anything to their laundry routine – which is good, because I try not to be a bother. My foster parents always say “good potty!” when I do my business outside (mostly on the move), which is more and more of the time now that I know how to better signal to them what I need. They understand I may never be perfect, but they are good at giving me lots of praise about the outside potty thing. They seem pretty focused on my ‘business’ so I follow my foster mom into the bathroom so I can tell her “good potty” too, though I’m not sure she understands me yet, because she usually says things like “what are you doing in here?” and “I thought I closed this door.” I’m a sensitive guy, so I am hoping my forever people give me time to settle in and want to set me up for success. I’d love it if my people were mostly home during the day, had a yard I can do my business in, and a nice place to put my crate that I sleep in. I hope that’s not too much to ask – I can’t wait to meet my forever family! For inquiries or any information on Prince please message us. Let’s share his story so he can find his happily ever after. His people we are sure, are waiting! Contact Karin at karinkeith@hotmail.com for more information.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Prince, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
