Storm has weathered enough and would like to find sunnier skies! Storm is a 3 year old female dog who came to ACCT Philly as a stray on 1/30. She was said to be friendly, cuddly, well trained, but shy. Storm has had her share of stress while in our care, but has some wonderful qualities that are impossible to overlook! Sadly Storm has been overlooked nonetheless. Read what Storm's ACCT friends have to say: Per volunteer on 2/26: Storm presented at the front of kennel with 4 paws on the floor and was easily leashed. Dog exited the back door, passing multiple dogs in kennels with no issue. Took a walk on Hunting Park Ave, and Storm walked nicely on the leash, taking time to sniff and relieve herself. In the evaluation room, Storm demonstrated a good sit and took cheese gently from the hand. She absolutely adored playing fetch, and actually retrieves the ball! She's eager to play and interacted nicely with her handler. She jumped up on the couch for a quick pet and easily transitioned from the room back through the building. Storm accepted peanut butter biscuits from a male KA in the aisle, and hopped back into the kennel with no issue. 2/28 Storm was lying down in her kennel bed and came right up to the front greeting me with a neutral body, mid level wags, and soft eyes. She did try to push out initially but allowed me to close the door and reopen it, waiting for me to leash her the second time. She was pulling quite a bit today -she seemed super adamant on heading where she wanted to but more so of frantic energy than just wanting to go outside. We went to the large run first and she paced around the run on its perimeters. She would briefly come up and sniff me but was generally avoidant and would walk at a fast pace by me. I offered her a treat which she didn't take and continued to pace. She allowed handling but didn't seek it out while in the yard, mostly was exit searching. On the way inside, a male staff member saw her and attempted to call her over and crouched down slightly hovering over her and she gave a brief alarm bark and flinched away. I brought her inside to the eval room and she did walk around a bit frantically but it was significantly less. She began taking treats in the room, and took them super gently. She gave me low wags and allowed all handling, leaning in my lap and resting her head on my chest. We played fetch for a while and we ran around together a bit as well. She was much more relaxed with time, stopped avoiding eye contact and had an open panting mouth. She did eventually paw at the door to leave, and she hopped right back in her kennel to relax. Notes from playgroup 2/14 & 2/15: Storm has gained some confidence in playgroup! She is still shy and a bit tense walking through, but was tolerant of all sniffing and had some more curiosity in other dogs. She didn't stay in for very long since she's not feeling the best. 2/2 Storm got out for some activity time today! She was laying on her bed when I approached, and looked up with soft eyes. When I showed her the leash she stood up and came to wait by the door. She kept her head low with a neutral body and allowed me to leash her without issue. She jumped right out of the kennel and walked with minimal pulling on the leash. When we first entered the eval room she pressed her body against me and gave me some wide eyes. She moved on to interact with the other handler in the room, putting her head on their lap with soft eyes. She would explore the room a bit, and then go up to either handler looking for attention. She took treats from my hand gently, and even jumped up into my lap and gave me a kiss. Storm showed knowledge of "sit" as well. Treats are the way to her heart, she loves them. Storm seemed to like the soft, meaty treats best. We played some fetch, which she enjoyed. She wouldn't trade for another ball, but traded for treats and even let me grab the ball from her mouth once, relinquishing it willingly! She's definitely opened up in the past couple days. Overall, a shy girl who needs some time and treats to open up! 1/31 Storm was lying on her bed and had wide eyes. She seemed slightly nervous but came to the front with a neutral body and allowed me to easily leash her without issue. Storm was nervous in the room and paced for the first few minutes but then came over to me with neutral body language. She had a low tail and would lip lick and had wide eyes. She allowed me to pet her full body without any issues but remained fairly nervous and neutral body. No interest in treats. When a male handler entered the room she began to jump on them for attention but would then run off alert barking. She seemed interested in interaction but also a bit conflicted! No issues returning her to kennel. 1/31 So shut down. She allowed leashing with no issue but pancaked on the way out a few times./ She was more open outside but was quite scared. She stayed at the other side of the play yard for the most part sniffing. She came towards me for treats but never took them. She did open up when other dogs walked by! she got very excited and had good fence meets. Poor girl is shut down but seems to be a sweet lady underneath. When medical staff first evaluated Storm, she was found to be apparently healthy, with no obvious signs of illness or injury. On 2/1 it was determined that Storm had contracted an upper respiratory infection or "doggy cold She was prescribed doxycycline. On 2/10 It was determined that Storm's URI symptoms were not improving and she was prescribed enrofloxacin. Storm has overcome so much of her fear and a complicated upper respiratory infection so she could find her forever home! Can it be with you?!
