My story

Meet Kai! Kai came to us through our Humane Investigations department in January of 2024 after having a bit of a rough start to life. As a result, Kai was a bit wary of new people when he first arrived, but has since begun to blossom, and is doing an incredible job of making new friends. He is a wonderful boy, who loves to play and also loves to get food -- yes food! He is highly food motivated and a very smart young man - he has even picked up a few tricks and been working on training with our Behavior Department, so that he can have the best manners. He loves to learn new things, so long as you have a pocket full of snacks! Some of Kai's favorite activities are that loves to go outside on walks, play ball in our playyards or spend time sniffing around in our enrichment spaces. He also loves to go to playgroup where he gets to wrestle with other pups here at the shelter - something he looks forward to every week! He's still a little shy when he meets new people, but once he gets to know you he's a bouncy and playful boy. Because he is a bit shy, and can sometimes bark at people or animals walking by his room, we would recommend Kai not go to any communal living spaces. Kai would do best in a home with only adults, and could live with another dog pending a successful meet and greet! Interested? Kai is one of our Extra Loved residents. Although all our resident animals get plenty of love, many of them come from backgrounds where they may need a little extra care, extra attention, and extra patience. To help this special resident find their adoptive home, a generous donor has sponsored their adoption donation, to help them feel extra loved! Kai is also a part of our Rosie's Rule program. Animal Friends has teamed up with Fi Smart Dog Collar to provide GPS-enabled dog collars for Animal Friends’ canine residents who may be at an increased risk of becoming separated from their handler. Once outfitted with a Fi collar, Rosie’s Rule dogs will keep their collar through adoption along with a one-year subscription to the Fi App – at no cost to their new family.
