Meet Teddy, a young adult (2-ish) male neutered pit bull mix. He came to ACCT malnourished, covered in head and neck wounds, anemic, infected with parasites and slated to be euthanized. Over the past couple of months his problems have been treated, he has gained weight and he has learned how to live indoors as a member of the family. Despite having to overcome so much in such a short time, Teddy has so much to give. He seeks out the company of those around him, human or canine. He is always giving kisses and soliciting play. He enjoys romping around outside, but his favorite place in the world is sitting at your feet, or better yet, in your lap! When he wakes up from a nap, he flattens his front and hind legs on the ground and stretches out like Superman flying through the air. He loves the sensation of having his back and sides scratched. He rolls over on his back and wiggles around to show he's ready for belly rubs and play. Teddy enjoys chasing his ball and is always the first one to let you know when it is time to eat! Teddy's ideal placement would be in a household with one or more dogs. He loves people, but is clearly missing the company of his peers. He is super patient with other dogs and meets each one with the hope that they will become his new best friend. His current foster is no longer able to care for a dog. Please don't let this beautiful soul return to the shelter environment. He is so deserving of a place in the home and hearts of a caring family. Read what Tommi's shelter friends have to say: 2/3 I took Tommi out for the photo shoot and he was the perfect boy. When I approached his kennel he was laying quietly on his bed. I dropped a few treats and he came to the door with soft eyes and a loose body. He wasn't jumpy at all and I easily leashed him on the first try. He didn't pull at all and walked close to my side through the kennels. Once outside he solicited attention from everyone we passed. I took him in a run and he just wanted to hang close to me. He allowed full body handling and didn't seem to be uncomfortable despite his injuries. I did two dog meets with him and he did great! He was very tolerant of both dogs who were a bit pushy. He greeted them with happy tail wags and loose body language. He was one of those dogs you really don't want to put back [in kennel]. However I eventually had to return him to kennel and he stepped in with no issue. He also let me put a big comforter in his kennel and happily ate his peanut butter treat. He's a really sweet boy and deserves the happiest ending. 10/10 love him!! 2/3 Tommi is super super sweet! He was sitting on a bench in the large play yard and when I came in he gave me fast low wags and lowered himself wiggling a bit. He gave some submissive smiles and let me slip my leash on and hopped down right away. He is super affectionate and greeted all handlers we passed with a lowered body and low wags. While we waited for his paperwork he wanted to be as close as possible and was climbing right in my lap and resting his head on my leg. He loves giving kisses and is a huge fan of treats (although is quite snatchy!). He did very well for intake, was tolerant of all handling. We were able to get in all his shots but he did at one point give a huff/groan that was on its way to a low growl. He was redirected with peanut butter and immediately shook off and sought out more pets afterwards. 2/3 Employee discovered dog inside play yard by itself. The dog is very very friendly and snuggles with everyone. He loves attention and allows all handling. When Medical staff first evaluated Tommi they found that his RIGHT ear was bloody and has lacerations/bites. Under his right ear he has a very swollen mass. It looks like he also has a puncture hole in cheek that may be leading to the swollen site. Possible infection.During his exam he was described as friendly and sweet and lovable. Medical staff stated: Was great in intake. Even let me touch his wounded ear. Further evaluation from medical staff determined: There are two 1cm lacerations on the middle of the exterior and interior left pinna that bleed and have crusted blood in fur. The tip of the left pinna also has extensive scabbing and the pet shook his head and ripped the scabs open. The left ear has foul smelling brown debris and inflammation. The right ear has a 5mm ulcer at the middle crease where the ear flops over, but no obvious foul smelling debris indicative of infection The left salivary gland is enlarged to 3x the size of the right salivary gland. There is associated fluctuant swelling of the left caudal mandibular region. (Nothing noted inside the mouth except worn teeth). There are multiple abrasions and shallow puncture wounds on the front distal limbs. There is one 3cm laceration on the skin of the middle left forelimb that has mild associated swelling. The left mandibular is about 2x the size of the right mandibular. Tommi has been treated with buprenorphine, trazodone, clavamox, carprofen, an ear cleaning and compound ear ointment EKT (enrofloxacin (antibiotic), ketoconazole (antifungal) and triamcinolone (glucocorticosteroid)) to left ear. Tommi desperately needs a rescue to see what an amazing dog he isand help him recover form his medical issues so that he can go into a forever home where he only has to worry about being the best snuggle buddy ever!
