My story

Meet Stuart, a 4-year-old Labrador Retriever mix with a big heart and a lot of personality. He was originally rescued from Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control and brought to Big Dog Ranch to find the loving home he deserves. While he was adopted once, he was returned due to resource guarding behavior, particularly around food and toys. Stuart has a moderate energy level and enjoys his daily walks, playtime, and especially cuddles with people he trusts. He’s housetrained, knows basic commands, and is good with other dogs. However, he would do best in an adult-only home with a confident and experienced adopter who understands the needs of dogs with behavioral challenges. His new family should be comfortable managing and working through his resource guarding tendencies with patience, consistency, and structure. Because of his prey drive, Stuart is not good with cats and would do best in a feline-free environment that provides routine and boundaries. Despite his quirks, Stuart is incredibly loving and loyal once he feels safe and understood. If you're an experienced dog owner looking for a devoted companion and are willing to continue his behavioral training, Stuart is ready to thrive in a home that’s just right for him. He’s got the potential to be a wonderful best friend with the right guidance and care.
