Dog Name: Red Age: 1 year Gender: Male Breed: Pit mix Weight: 36lbs Crate trained: Almost Potty trained: Work in progress Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: puppy energy - he goes for a while and then crashes. Location: Fostered in Oswego, Illinois. No out of state applicants, please. Red, Spawn, Little Guy, Salmon…this guy seems to respond to anything. He loves attention. He loves to meet you at the door and then follow you trying to walk between your legs as you walk. He loves to play tug with the towels we use to wipe his paws. He tries very hard to get our dogs to play tug with them with him, but I think they know better. They dive right into tugging with him when he brings “appropriate toys” though. He also loves to play chase with our dogs. One will play bow and take off and the other chases after them. He also loves to play with our 10 year old son. And he is the perfect size because even though he can be a little spastic, he can’t knock our son over. He LOVES kongs. If he has one he will carry it with him everywhere. He is very good about sharing though - he hasn’t shown resource guarding of any kind. To food or toys. We think he has spent a lot of his life in a crate based on the fact that he isn’t quite crate trained yet and his back paws are very flat. His foster family thinks this would be an easy thing to train if someone isn’t gone for 8 hours a day. He does go willingly into his kennel though. He is still in the chewing stage, but as long as there are plenty of chew toys around he is good about using those. Like most puppies, he could use some leash training. Red would benefit from being in a home where someone could let him out of his crate more often than every 8 hours, at least until he understands that he won’t continue to spend the majority of his time in a crate. He would be a great only dog for a family with children and would also be a great addition to a home that already has dogs and wants to add to their pack. If you’re interested in meeting (Red, Salmon, Little Guy) please fill out an application at the link below. You will be amazed at how tiny he really is when you see him in person! https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DHDN/Dog
