*New notes and videos!* **$475 in pledges for the rescue that pulls** Liam is a 2 year old male dog who came to ACCT Philly on 3/24 and has been incredibly fearful while in our care. Liam urgently needs someone with patience to give him all the love he clearly wants and deserves and help him find out what the good things in life are. Liam is a handsome brindle boy who wants what every dog wants: a safe and comfortable home where he can be loved! Although he's still unsure of himself at the shelter, this sensitive guy opens right up with a gentle touch and some one-on-one time. Once he meets you and can tell you want to be his friend, he will crawl right in your lap and be your best pal! Per staff on 4/6: Liam did so well for his dog meet! He was a bit nervous, extremely non confrontational. He would go for a sniff but flinch a bit and do some displacement play bows. He was very interested in greeting people, approaching each person loose with mid level wags and a relaxed open panting mouth. He was extremely social with his primary handler and allowed all over handling staying loose. He is super treat motivated, and can be a tad jumpy but is open to learning manners! He practiced sit and was doing it much quicker over time. Per volunteer on 3/30: Liam was sitting on his bed when I approached his kennel and started to do a soft tail wag when he saw me. I opened the door and he came right to the front. The dog next to us was barking and that scared him a bit but we exited with no issues. Outside in the run he was initially skittish and startled easily. He sought reassurance from me by sitting next to me and seeking affection. His tail was tucked most of the time but when he saw dogs he perked up and started wagging! He was very easy to walk and tolerated handling. Hopefully he will open up to us with some more quality volunteer time! 3/25 Liam was tense in kennel and very nervous when approaching him. He was lying on his bed and when I spoke to him he stood upright like he was going to retreat away. I slowly lowered the divider and he layed back down on his bed and remained tense and trembling. He sniffed the leash when I placed it near him and then lowered his gaze away from me. I was able to slip the leash over his head ears to snout and once leashed he came out of the kennel without any issues. Liam was very very nervous in the room. Once in the room I dropped the leash and sat in a chair. He came over to me with soft eyes, giving tucked low wags. He allowed me to pet him and would stay close to me in the room seeking out comfort often. He tried to climb into my lap multiple times as well. He remained nervous, focusing on the noises outside and would whine and pant frequently in the room but did his best to self soothe. He was nervous when a new handler entered the room but approached her with submissive body language and little wags. When Medical staff first evaluated Liam he was found to be apparently healthy with no obvious signs of illness or injury. On 4/3 it was determined that Liam had contracted an upper respiratory infection. He was treated with doxycycline. He has been treated with Gabapentin due to his fear and anxiety while in the shelter. *no dog meet video due to PCR test! If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia.
