My story

Doc likes his stuffies! Doc is a beautiful 5 year old, 95ish lb Labrador who was hanging out at the GRRAND kennel waiting for his forever family for way to long! He cannot go to a home with children, so he is looking for an adult only dog savvy home, and we believe at this time, he needs to be the only pet in the home. We are happy to say he is in a foster home and they say as of 6-1-25: "Doc is a big yellow lab- about 95 pounds of muscle and he's absolutely gorgeous!! He's a big sweetie and loves to cuddle. He is crate trained and house trained.   He seems to be more of a people dog versus a dog dog.  He can be reactive to some dogs so he might do best in a home as the only pet however, he coexists with our chocolate lab but would rather hang out with us. He likes toys and likes to carry soft stuffies around almost like a security blanket. He enjoys walks but still needs better leash walking skills. Doc has a very high prey drive and is on "high alert" when walking.  Fun Fact about Doc is he is fascinated with the cicadas and tries to catch them every chance he gets!" We will update more soon... Doc demonstrates all of the usual Lab behaviors; he loves to fetch, swim, and climb on you and park his 95+ lbs body on your lap! He lights up when he sees someone familiar and gives such an awesome welcome. The volunteers at the kennel just loved him to bits and can't say enough great things about him, and Doc went to a short term foster in Feb and they said: "Doc is settling right in. He is a great dog. Doc is a very sweet and gentle guy. He sure makes a great watch dog too because when Amazon delivered a package yesterday, he barked and the hair on his back stood up, but as soon as I opened the door, all Doc wanted to do was say hello and greet him! He is full of the typical Lab Velcro dog qualities like wanting to be near you and follow you around. He loves to bring you toys to show you how much he loves to interact and appease you. Doc is very calm in the house but definitely needs more leash training so he stops pulling so much, but he is eager to learn and is very smart. His family will need to have the time and patience tow work with him on the leash training." He is a big boy and we have him on a diet right now and he is getting lots of exercise. When he was at the kennel, he went swimming every day and some work on his leash manners as he pulls hard - he loves to lunge at squirrels when we go walking. He seems to like the more passive girl dogs than the boys, and we are working on him taking treats from our hand less enthusiastically! Please check back later for more info on Doc, but if you would like to meet this big teddy bear, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   ##2000231##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Doc, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
