Meet Zelda, the adventurous pup on a quest for cuddles and treats! Just like her name Zelda from the legendary game series Legend of Zelda, Zelda is a 4-year-old female whose journey began at ACCT on 3/28 as a stray. This is where her quest to find her furever home commenced. She was initially nervous in her new environment, but like a true hero, she remained brave, knowing that this was only the beginning of her adventure. Read more below about the journey she has embarked upon, inspired by the courage and spirit of the legendary princess herself When Zelda first arrived at ACCT, She did not wanna come in the building as she was very fearful. Staff compromised and got down to her level to have her warm up a little. Once she felt comfortable with her handler, She came in and stayed close to the handler. Since then she had been a little calmer and more relaxed. Zelda is looking for placement where she will be able to decompress out of a shelter environment as well as get the love she needs. Due to her length of stay, Zelda is eagerly waiting for her Link to swoop in and take her back to her castle (loving home or rescue), where she can be spoiled and loved all day long. On 4/17 Zelda was on her last day of doxy but her URI signs may be worsening. She was coughing w/ dried mucoid nasal discharge but remained bright, alert and responsive. 4/12 Ran a second PCR test which is currently pending result. On 4/5 her PCR test came back positive for Coronavirus, Mycoplasma, and Pneumovirus. On 4/4 Zelda developed an upper respiratory infection and was started on medication. 3/31- Did well for a dog meet with ocean today. Was calm and showed some interest but also disengaged quickly not minding the other dog On 3/30 during initial intake exam, Zelda was noted to have tartar, staining. She was quiet, alert, responsive, scared, sweet, and friendly. 3/29 staff noted- Zelda was a little nervous in kennel. She was standing by the door when I approached. She looked up with neutral to hard eye contact, a tucked tail, and ears pinned back. She gently climbed up on the door to sniff the leash but quickly got down. I reached in with my leash and she tried to back away from the leash, but ultimately allowed me to leash her over the head without issues. She hopped right out once secured. Pulls Minimally On Leash. Neutral/ Allows all handling. Zelda stayed close to me throughout our eval. She would wander off a few feet, then look back at me and come sit by my feet. After I offered her a few treats, which she didn't take, she put her head on my lap and looked up with soft eyes, soaking in some light head pets. She didn't like being approached suddenly and would flinch away, so go low and slow for this girl. She's really nervous but she allowed all over handling without any issues. A nice slow approach and proper warm up time is all this girl needs. Fearful during play. Zelda would run with me but it seemed like she was running with me assuming I was running from something. She had ears pinned back, tail tucked, and would whip her head around to look behind her as we ran. No interest in toys or treats at this time. 3/28- Was called up front for Zelda. Over walkie staff said hat Zelda was "gator rolling, lunging, snapping and attempting to bite". When I came up front staff was holding the leash of zelda outside the door. Zelda was nervous but completely unreactive. She told me she was able to pet zelda without any reactivity and that she's just scared and didnt want to walk. I asked her if Zelda tried to bite or showed any concerning behaviors and the staff said no, that she did not lunge or snap at all. She just didnt want to walk on the leash and was pancaking. I placed my leash on zelda and removed the other leash. I gave her a little tug and coaxing and she slowly walked without any issues. Was friendly towards another staff member and I allowing all handling and leaning in for pets. Spent 15+ minutes with he and she did not display any concerning behavior 3/29- Went and sat with Zelda earlier. She is more confident and not as shy. She is a bit curious and would look out her kennel door. Allowed all pets!
